About where I thought we would be after 6 rounds given our draw a fevola less forward line -and no Judd for 3 rounds

Horrendous loss to Essendon* but given we beat Geelong -played twice interstate played Collingwood Geelong and Brisbane all looking like finalists this year and could all be top 4 -3/3 with a percentage over 100 isnt a bad return

Also factor in we were one of the youngest teams on the park on the weekend still think we are a real chance for finals action

Many had us penciled in at 1-8 after the first nine rounds if memory serves. If we can win our rugby match on Monday we'll be travelling pretty well given the fixture.

I thought at the start of the year if we could win 3 or 4 of the first seven games that would be a good effort. Nothing has changed my mind and I believe we are a good chance against St Kilda.

We have the core of a very very good side and we are finally starting to get some balance and run and carry in the side. I am also happy with the style of game we are trying to play.

Our next great side will be built around Judd, Gibbs, Murphy, JR, Kruezer, Bower, Simmo, Jamo, Walker, Lucas, Yarran, Garlett, Waite & Armfield. There are also a number of players already on our list that will push up into that group.

All in all good signs and we are ahead of where we were this time last year. All we need now is consistency!

Add JR and Eddie to that list and there are 16 high quality footballers. A 2nd ruckman will also step up further from the remaining 3.
Less and less holes to fill.

JR is there! As for Eddie he really needs to keep improving to be part of a great side but he has the ability. The ruckman I agree with. Another class midfielder who can kick and a key fwd who can take contested marks will make the difference.

IMO guys like O'Keefe, Tuohy, Austin, Hampson, Casboult, Garlett will be added to that group in the coming seasons.

If you look at the remainder of the draw the following are must win games;

Hawthorn, West Coast home, Melbourne, Kangas, Freo home, Richmond and West Coast away;

To get to 12 wins we need to get 2 wins from this lot of games;

StKilda, Port Adelaide away, Brisbane home, Geelong, Bulldogs, Sydney home, Collingwood, Essendon* and Freo away.

We want to be in entrenched in the 8 by the last round. Don't fancy a trip to Subi in Round 22 to make the 8.

I am quietly confident we will win the next 3 games. :wink:

Why you ask? I just think I have seen enough in what we are doing the last 12 quarters to show we are slowly getting it right.

I think a more confident Waite back in this week and maybe an energised Robbo will get us over the Saints. Armfield will stem Milne and after that I think Jamo and Bower will cover their forwards. Play on every time and drive it long to the advantage of forwards on the move. :thumbsup:

If someone had said that we would be 3-3 after 6 games I would have thank you Iwill take that. Still it does not make the losses to Collingwood and Essendon* any easier to stomach

The wins were all good 4 qrt efforts. At no time we let them control a qrt and completely outscore us.

Essendon* was a complete 4 qrt stuff up. Hopefully a lesson learned for next time.

The Lions and Pies, both games started off OK in the 1st qrt and lost it in the 2nd qrt. Came out on fire in the 3rd in both games to catch up but then ran out of legs and got smashed in the 4th.

I think Parko said this ages ago. If your down by 6 goals in the 1st qrt, the plan would be outscore the opposition by 2 goals a qrt. If you try and make up the deficit in 1 qrt and use up all your petrol tickets, most teams get outran and the loss is by a greater margin to start with.

Best would be to not let a team get away from you and play catch up footy.

You can definitely add Kerr to that list. I have seen him in 3 games and 3 training sessions and gee he reminds me of Didak, cept a slightly less filthy version :lol:

Hopefully he isn't a sheepdog like Didak.

I had us at 3 and 6 after the first nine...so unfortunately it is still a possibility although we should get over the Hawks...the saints and port away I'm not so sure about....we are far too inconsistent to the point of lazy esp through the midfield and when we the heat is applied we crumble..

It is a worry that a Carlton side is not able to lift for games against Coll and Ess not even to the extent of making those games a contest...in our darkest years we would still manage to find another gear when we played these two teams and more often than not win or come pretty close....we basically played 15 minutes on Sunday...we were doing this last year and the year before...it seems we believe a little effort will get us a big return...this just won't cut it.

We may win 11 or 12 games this year and whether this gets us into the 8 is debatable but what is open for debate is would such a return be acceptable?

I thought we might win all our games with the exception of those against:

Geelong and StKilda and 1 against Collingwood and Brisbane..and maybe drop another 1 or 2 games for 16-17 wins.
That's if injury and form were favourable for us.

Oh well, we dropped the Essendon* game but nabbed Geelong.

I'm still expecting finals.
I have to say though that Doggies look better with Hall and Freo has been a surprise packet.
Furthermore, The Demons are really amazing, and I'm glad we get them when they tire later on in the season.

3 wins and 3 losses after 6 rounds: I'm content with that (still can't believe what we served up against the Bumbers)

I like Kerr and he definitely has some ability and is such a good user by foot and has the ability to find space. However, at the moment he is a long long way off AFL football and will need atleast another pre season before he will even debut at AFL level. I put him in the same bracket as Tiller. Ability but raw and needs time.

I'm willing to admit that I was one who had us pencilled in fir 2and4, or 1and5, so i'm very happy with our current position.

I thought we improved against all opponents so far, with the exception of the Bombers.
So yes we should all be relatively happy.

My thoughts before R1 were that we should be a top 6 team with improvement coming from a more mature midfield and a multi-dimensional forward line.

We should have beaten Essendon* which would have currently made us 4-2 and on track for top 6.

After the Saints game, we have 5 winnable games in a row. 3-3 is pretty darn good all things considered so far.

But THAT Essendon* game :hitcomputer: :banghead:
