We played well against a really good side.

Our MC has over rated White's ability to play tall at this stage, and it was costly.

We took 5 babies (experience wise) into the game (Hendo,Yazz, Lucas, Garlett, White )

They just had Steele, Beams, Dawes ( what a pre season this guy has had, moving like a different player ). Dawes will make the Pies a 3-5 goal better side than with Anthony.

McLean was so awful as was Hendo who needs to get some back confidence in the Ants, we basically played with 20 and we are 2-3 yrs behind them in development as it is.

We have room for improvement especially with Waite, Walker and better output from someone in the guts than Brock. I would like to see Robbo given a rotation in the guts. MK and Gartlett were also down.

Thought pre game fans were getting a bit ahead of themselves after beating the cats.

Today was still a good performance, Players are constantly taking steps forward, the coaching staff is improving and becoming more pro-active.

We are just 3-4 players and a bit of maturity away from the best teams.

We played well against a team that was red hot.

Agree that there is no need for melodrama.

I haven't watched the game yet, radio was enough. I do want to watch the third qtr at least as we played some good footy before fading away.

Yep, agree with these sentiments. It was good for the team to be exposed to such a high intensity, slick game of footy. Plenty to learn from the loss and it is now up to the coach and players to learn the lessons and make the necessary improvements. This is their responsibility and failure to do so should result in scathing criticism

I was happy that we showed some class and angry that we blew it with the turnovers but not ashamed of the side like I have been in the past. This is a very good side, its young though, and still has some holes. But @#$%&! its getting better.

Its a great shame that the team folded in the last qtr. A 2-3 goal defeat had been in the cards and we showed some great footy in the third. "They'll learn from that".

We were beaten soundly by a team who will in all likelihood be playing off for a GF berth. I think the real test will be next time we play them, I expect improvement from the coaches box down.

Sums up my thinking perfectly... bummer of a result to fly down for, but the effort was significant.... Don't we always say that's the best any fan can ask for (deserves??) ??
Dawes is a man mountain - I was impressed with him in the warm up - couldn't believe he was only 101kg.... he seems to be carrying at least another 10 there... and is obviously pretty strong in upper body.

I actually enjoyed the game until the 10 minute mark of the last, but by then I realised we were not going to win anyway.

I agree with your post groth and marciblue.

Camelboy, do yourself a favour and watch the game. We did better than what you heard on the radio, assuming it was 3AW.
Listening to 3AW it sounded like an onslaught, then I saw the delayed telecast, and it was a very competitive quarter, not an onslaught.

Carrying Brock is not worth the message it sends to the rest of the sqaud. So what if he cost us pick 11. If he's not in form, then drop him. Simple. It worked a treat on Houla and Scotto last year, as it will with TBird and Waite this year. The message is simple: do the team things and your role or make way for another candidate who may do a better job if given the opportunity.

Lucky Ball doesn't play for StKilda, otherwise we'd need Brock this weekend.

A Colonwood supporter told me that he blew out closer to 120kgs at one stage, and has trimmed down to just over 110kg.
No way he's 101 kg. As you say, he's a man mountain.

We should lobby the AFL every year to ensure we play Collingwood in June.

You can see he is a whole different body shape, and moving so much better than last year.
Not surprised if he lost 10kg+ during pre season

I hope you will enjoy watching the game camel.
i watched the replay today...well... all the good bits...
i have to say...I'm really sorry you couldn't be there for the atmosphere of that third quarter bit.
I'm sure there will be many more magic filled periods in the future...but I really have to say that i think Channel 7 are big fat liars.
Their ads say they Love the footy....but really...they should say...'At 7,we destroy the footy.
The ridiculous amount of ads just ruins the moment, and fails to capture the building excitement.
If Santy hadn't of missed...and Eddie hadn't hit the post....who knows what might have happened....but...also....
it was a 6 day turnaround...we are a young team...and..
I think we really missed Walks.

That Collingwood side had an average age of 24 and average games played of 97.

That Carlton side had an average age of 22.8 and an average games played of 69.

Can't remember who it was (Parkin maybe?) but I remeber a coach some years ago saying that for all but the greatest freaks it really takes 80 games before they know what the @#$%&!'s going on out there.

We had 8 players with 80 or more games out there and they had 14.

This team was awesome against Geelong and they'll have more performances like that but they'll also struggle for consistency because they're young and they'll have more games like this one too. It was a lot to ask them to back up after an effort like last week.

When this group has an average age of 24 and average games played of 97 we'll be a whole lot better than that Collingwood side.

It just takes a little while.

Watch his pathetic performance in Round 2 against a similar big bodied player to Dawes in Jono Brown... He wouldn't have...

Wait til we unleash Casboult next year... Then you'll see man mountain!!!

Collingwood played the best footy they are capable of - there is no improvement left in them.

We didn't play the best footy we are capable of, except in patches, and the improvement will come during the course of the season.

I reckon we have plenty to be optimistic about.

I expect a different result in R18.

Collingwood have no excuse this year. Hate losing to them, but they have a very even team with limited weakness.

Coming back in that third quarter took the legs out of us, the last quarter was always on the card IMO.

Maggies will be doing heavy load training in round 18 so we will be a good chance unless we are set in the finals and loading up also.

I reckon they might start all that about a week later, actually. :(
