SEN ran a bit of a competition yesterday, seeking submissions from the general public as to an appropriate name for the three indigenous forwards at Carlton.

Some callers suggested generic titles like "The Three Amigos", "The new Cracker/Krakeour brothers" and "Blue Lightning".

Nothing topped the suggestion of someone (off SMS I think). "Setanta's Little Helpers".....

Instantly conjured thoughts of fans at the footy with Santa hats on and "Setanta's Little Helpers" on the front - good marketing opportunity for the club!! :smoking:

They'd need to be navy Blue Santa hats, though.

They're indigenous?

Why haven't they mentioned this fact before?

I can't wait for them to rave about our caucasian midfield.

We could go with Danny Frawley and call them the three half-forwards.

I think he was afraid to point out they were aboriginal.

I always find it strange that in Aussie Rules the political correctness of never referring to race goes out the window. I'm sure there's a Masters' thesis in it...

"Wow that Magic Johnson and his Negro teammates seem to have this telepathy out there..."

It's a little AFL quirk

We were chatting about this with some mates over a few ales.

One mentioned the Blitzkrieg the other Wizards and the other Voodoo and gave each of them names.

Wind - Garlett
Thunder - Betts
Lightning - Yarran

Well we are unsure as well we had a few afterall.

I always thought that the whites are the indigenous players of Aussie Rules.

I'd like to know what Simon White thinks about all this...

Probably the complete opposite to Simon Black.

I think our forward line is like a can of Guiness. Black and Irish and can quickly mess you up

Believe it or not they are. And what's more, I heard that Gartlett is actually Cyril Rioli's cousin.

How about Earth, Wind & Fire ala the Giants' backfield.

Then we just need Water (cue many jokes) & Heart to run a 'new' Visy campaign; Judd can be Captain Planet.

I like 'the Blues Brothers' that has popped up here on TC from time to time.
Anybody thought of asking them what they call themselves? I'm sure they must have given themselves some sort of nickname by now.

Just looked up the net and found that there is a black mosquito called Psorophora Ferox

The Ferox is from the latin for 'ferocious' as it is apparently a pretty good stinger.

Doesn't immediately lend itself to something catchy but you lot out there may be able to grab something from it...

The proboscis brothers?

Maybe, but it's fueled as much by the indigenous boys themselves... they always make a point to seek each other out post-game, and obviously have a strong sense of belonging to their own people. Nothing wrong with that - it's a pretty unique facet of our game, and about the only time mainstream Australians ever see anything 'aboriginal'.

The White Guy gets loads of attention for being white in athletics though. White sprinters are seen as a novelty and often commented on. Craig Mottram was known for years as the Big White Guy in 5000m running.

IMO we're not all the same, and differences aren't anything to be frightened of, and no-one needs to pretend such differences don't exist.

BTW, It'd be a bit pointless commenting on Magic Johnson's black teammates. Wouldn't 95% of them be black?
