Brock McLean is a much smarter footballer than Hadley.

Both are fairly slow - but I dare suggest Brock would destroy Hadley in terms of endurance and general game smarts.

Brock is a natural and he compliments our midfield set up beautifully.

Opinions sure but it absolutely blows me away that some can't see McLean's value to this team...

Won't be great every week but gives us the very stuff we have lacked for the last 5 years. In and under options, strength at the ball, and some pure footy smarts that aren't limited by a fat gut and ginger hair.

I'm either talking about myself or Lance there. not sure.

Brock had 8/9 tackles (cnt remember exactly) against geelong, thats what he came in to do, he did his job, ure right he is slow, but he doesnt need to be quick . . .
also, saw him pyshing ling off judd a few times in the second half, trying to create space for juddy . . . priceless

he used the ball pretty well i thought anyway, its no coincidence that all of a sudden we r 1 of th best clearance teams in the comp and a lot of it is thanks to Brock's work

17 possessions, 5 inside 50s, 4 clearances, 8 tackles for 68% game time, a good result IMO. Plus he hurts the opposition when he tackles them.
The biggest bonus is he allows Judd to play a bit more outside which helps our cause.

Opinions sure but it absolutely blows me away that some can't see McLean's value to this team...

great pick up, compare him to Luke Ball :razz:

He seems very much off the pace? I can't recall a slower player, Having him sounds good in theory but if he doesnt adjust to the pace of the game im far from sold on him. Maybe Hadley would be a better option at the moment. I dont mean to be negative after a great win..Just interested in other peoples thoughts

He's not Diesel Williams, and if he's smarter than Hadley (I don't know how anyone can come to that conclusion) that does not suggest that he is the best player we can select in the midfield role. Personally I don't mind McLean as a tough nut, but that does not suggest to me that the midfield position should be his by default. His contribution should be questioned, and there's no doubt that he's one of the slowest players in the competition (and they usually get found out on fast tracks against fast opposition) so I do expect him to continue to improve. I think Hadley had a much better preseason than Brock. Brock's race against Judd around Princes Park shows good endurance, not pace, and I agree his endurance has him ahead of lets say, another tough kid, Robinson, and another tough nut, Wiggins. There's no doubt in my mind Brock has better skills by foot and hand than either Grigg and Browne who also are tough nuts. There's no doubt that Brock is safe in his midfield position until someone forces him out, but I would like to see his speed improve a bit moving forward.

I think McLean has been less than impressive in his last two games. While he did use the ball quite well in the first couple of games, I have not seem that lately, in fact he has coughed it up quite a bit. And he has look slow. Having one of these bigger bodied inside types in the team definitely makes us better as we saw last year when Hadley came in and we played some great footy. Hadley was in great form pre-season and did not look slow at all. I think this was perhaps his first uninterrupted pre-season and he looked in great nick ... and in much better form than McLean. I could not understand why McLean got first crack in round one; and I cannot understand why Hadley does not get a go now with McLean struggling and under injury cloud. Maybe be some truth in the rumor that he does not get on with Ratten? Hadley is a very clever footballer who uses the ball as well or better than McLean. I think he is quicker and at the moment he is a better extractor. Give him a go.

- IF you hold the view, like I do, that last years finals loss was almost totally due to having only one in and under player on our list, we need both Mclean and Hadley - Mclean may only play 60-80 games due to his body but sometimes you have to recruit for now. - IF Mclean and Hadley play 22 games between them....thats ok too - I thought he was a pass today great against Richmond and Brisbane.

Brock The Rock was good in the first two games, got injured in the third game, and was OK yesterday. So far then it has been tick, tick, and so-so. Enough to warrant another game, for sure. In terms of Brock vs Hads, my gut feel is Brock is younger than Hads, and Brock's endurance is > than Hads' ??? Neither of them are good once the ball is cleared.

Brock is a smart player and can show what he can do against Richmond and Brisbane - I am almost certain he is carrying an injury. Sure we needed and in and under type player and bump Judds opponent off the ball etc.. but someone like Wiggo or Ando can be trained to do the same[why do skill coaches exist?]... he turned the ball over alot.

He hurt his ankle (reconstructed one) agaist the bombers and was going to be out for 1-2 weeks...He's back now and should be better for the run. Bring on the pies!
