Interesting stats are coming through to start the year...: * Carlton averages 1.25 kicks to handballs (almost the same as St Kilda at 1.27, but much more than Geelong at 0.90) * Some players just prefer to kick: - Jamison has 28 kicks to 2 handballs for the year (14 to each handball) - Garlett, Yarran, Setanta and Henderson each average over 2 kicks per handball (all forwards) * Some players just prefer to handball (or are instructed to): - Warnock, Kreuzer, McLean and Lucas all average about 1 kick to 2 handballs http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... aying+List From the Blueseum |

Thanks for the info. I'm glad that Jamo doesn't handball - he's actually a really good kick. To be honest I'd like to see the ball in his hands more often than what it currently is so we can make the most of that. I was also wondering about how we rank compared to other teams in terms of our forward efficiency (ie goals/scoring shots per forward 50 entry). I am guessing our efficiency is actually very high – the mids actually aren’t getting it in there all that often, even though our midfield is considered to be a relative strength. Do you know where to go for stats on that? |

Rucks usually are better off dishing it off, and Brock the Rock is the ball getter and dish off the runners outside |

Do you know where to go for stats on that? Have done some digging for you Spornstar and your wonderings are correct... Round 1 v Rich: 57 Inside 50s, 18.12.120, 32% of inside 50s resulted in a goal, 53% resulted in a score. Round 2 v BL: 56 Inside 50s, 12.16.88, 21% of inside 50s resulted in a goal, 50% resulted in a score. Round 3 v Ess: 42 Inside 50s, 10.15.75, 24% of inside 50s resulted in a goal, 60% resulted in a score. Round 4 v Adel: 36 Inside 50s, 16.7.103, 44% of inside 50s resulted in a goal, 64% resulted in a score. Overall - 12th in Inside 50s per game with an average of 45 per game, 31% of inside 50s resulted in a goal - ranked 5th, 59% resulted in a score - ranked 3rd What this shows is that we have dropped away particularly in the last two weeks getting the ball inside 50 - which is a bit worrying. Our inside 50s are generating scoring shots which is pleaing, but like so many sides our accuracy in front of goals is something that is a big difference between us winning and losing (as is our general field kicking around the ground - our kicking was good against the Tigers and Adelaide, bu poor against the Lions and not even worth talking about against the Bombers). |

Thanks Bambi, great work. That is both worrying and pleasing. Good that our forwards have been getting scores from limited opportunities, but worrying (and a little strange) that our mids are failling to get it inside 50 very often. Before the season i would have guessed most people would have thought the opposite would be occuring. The positive from the weekend was that our delivery was good and when we did move it inside 50 we did so in a pretty well drilled fashion. But boy, 36 inside 50s in a game is really low. |

Not always as simple as drawing those conclusions from the stats. The midfield looks to have been more patient this year, flipping the ball around outside 50 and waiting for good options to present inside 50. This would result in possibly less inside 50's but with a better scoring conversion once we go inside ![]() |

Thought he was a lot more attacking and direct on Saturday and his smother and turnover in the first quarter was fantastic. Looked a lot freer with Thornton not there. |
