Very rough para-script.... Weekend very pleasing – 2nd youngest team this weekend. Good result & appetite to compete. Waite & Thornton – 20possessions each, fairly serviceable… Seemed to play not too bad. White – WA comp producing good mature age players. Did a great job for us. Was a big ask and played very well. Lucas – very good player, rated him highly in the draft and he ran a 3km in 10:03?mins. Good engine, good speed. He can play forward as well. Great versatility. New look forward line – band of brothers… pre-game he thought it would have a big impact on scoreboard and defensively. Daniel Rich/Yarran – Teague said last year “This kid is going to be a gun.” Too high expectation for immediate results …some players take longer. Even re Judd, Ball, Hodge battle has taken time to evolve. Judd – As seen on the w/e he is the ultimate professional and he’s only going to get better. We thought there were parts of his game he will improve. Leads from the front. Bartlett reckons he’s worth 5-6goals – enormous influence out on the field. Like Kernahan & Bradley, Judd has enormous aura about him. Walker – Ratten thinks he is a backman. Only played about 7 games last year & the year before so had to take him to other parts of the ground but his instincts allow him to play straight ahead football. He is the fittest player at the club. From GPS perspective he is No.1 at the club. Challenge is to back it up week to week. Sometimes you need to stop momentum of teams and then its about how well & quickly you can turn that into our own attack. Ross Lyon/45min halves – Hasn’t given a lot of thought. Maybe expectation on players, trends heading the wrong way. Perhaps have an extra quarter [sic] with players doing serious hamstring injuries which we don’t want. |

I heard the interview, just laughed at his suggestion of an extra "quarter". Playing an extra "quarter" by my maths means playing 5 "fifths". |

Yeah, now it makes sense... we were planning to overrun the Bombers and Brions in the 5th quarters! From his words, doesn't look like Thornton or Waite will be promoted this week. And interesting that he always thought of Walker as a backman. In any event, I think its a good sign that he'll keep Walker in the half back line. Will be interesting to see how he reacts when his opponent tries to drag him back to the square. But am happy for him to get compfrtable in one poisition for the moment. Sounds like White has done enough to play against Geelong. Based on this interview, I think the only change will be McLean/Hadley in for Robinson. |

Navy Blue Horse wrote: 5 quarters! ![]() I agree. Coaches are better off simply saying they haven't really thought about an issue before, rather than giving an answer that shows they haven't thought about an issue before. It's not entirely Ratts fault though. The media should never ask coaches about the 'state of the game'. Because you never, never get an 'impartial' view. It's always about what's in the interests of their club. |

grrofunger wrote: What is Ross Lyon smoking!?!? Two 45 minute halves !?!? GTFO !!! LEAVE THE GAME ALONE ! His next suggestions would be: a. to use a round ball, because the oval one doesn't bounce consistently, that's hard to plan for. b. remove tackling as the injury toll is sky rocketing at the moment. c. have an off side rule in place, as its common knowledge that players that meet front on have less injuries. d. remove the point posts. People want to see goals kicked in footy, not points. e. reduce the goals hight and put a net on it. That way his super skilled, well drilled team will have an additional challenge, plus it would enable the players to continue play quicker by having the ball within easy reach. f. remove handballs. People want to see footy players kick the bloody thing, not move it around by hand in a merry-go-round in the background. |

Snippets from Ratten’s presser today, just played on SEN... First asked about Waite and Thornton returning to Bullants: - JW 20 possie, went okay - BT 20 possies, went okay - BT sore ankle may miss Bullants this week - JW in consideration - Overall good move for the individuals and team - BT directions were to play with more physicality - JW get his timing right and more 2nd/3rd efforts - JW gone under the ball a bit too much so far in seniors, improved last week Against Crows: - Started well last week, allows team to play on its terms - They had shots, but missed Against Geelong: - First 10-15 minutes set the trend, we need to match Geelong’s physical game - First class side, most respected team in comp Nick Stevens comeback: - Yeah, nah, didn’t see The Footy Show - Advice from medicos was for Nick to retire, haven’t spken to him about it, but was at the club for Lucas jumper presentation, hopes he is going well Brad Fisher: - Could be right around Rd 8-10, will need some time in reserves for form and fitness Shaun Hampson: - Couple of injuries, back, hamstring sorness, been conservative, will play Bullants next week Storm: - Asked about Carlton’s breaches, creates tension, didn’t know full story as a player either. More about process of fixing the problems, sorting out the cap and moving on |
