Poor disposal cost us tonight but what was our game plan????? All our goals were from direct Essendon* turnovers, only 1 goal from a long kick into the forward line - Yarran. Essendon* wanted to flood back yet we never tried to change our structure. We had no players leading up the middle of the ground, the midfielders had nothing to kick to when they went forward. If Ratts and the brians trust cant come up with a game plan they should step aside. Please let me know if u understood our game plan? |

Watch the last 10 minutes of the third. CLose your eyes and imagine Henderson kicking straight and eddie betts going back and taking a shot. That was the gameplan. For it to work it had involve a bunch of players caring enough for it to work. Unfortunately tonight we were lucky to have half a dozen who gave a shit. |

You have a point Club 29 BUT A good coach makes it work or at least has an option when its not working - 2 plays that went according to plan out of 60 inside 50s is evidence that the plan is not a good plan. |

Well watching the first 10 minutes of the game and seeing Essendon* players stretching out gliding through the open green pastures of the corridor I sat back quietly and asked that very question. The players were totally unprepared mentally and tactically. The general skill level continues to be poor. We've draft talented juniors equal to or better than most other clubs who are now in their prime or are entering their prime and we see a performance like tonights. Any clear minded person couldn't deny that there are weak links somewhere in club chain. |

Not disagreeing with you but you can plan, plan , plan BUT when you assemble a list that has poor disposal, lack of running instict, poor first point of contact with the ball and lack of footy smarts the best laid plan might not work either. We have some seriously sloppy footballers. |

i saw only one real tactical change all night and that was moving Waite from fwd to loose man in defence. - A real match winner move. Why not have Ohailpin playing more out of the square and get longer kicks up fwd and move it in quickly. Or Move Walker (worst player on our list) off gumbleton who killed him b/c evertime walker kicked it he turned it over. Anyone try to pick up Lovett-Murray??? Hendo try to drag Fletcher away??? Gibbs move to a HFF - good overhead and can kick Tell betts to remain closer to goal - no point in him getting the ball 50m out, we need him at the fall of the ball. Move Russell to HFF and rotate through midfield Play more through the corridor. There are many options. Mine are not great and may not have worked and after all I am not a coach but at least try SOMETHING!!! |

The gameplan works if players execute the skill properly. Have a look at the contested possession. Yet again, we win by a fair margin in this stat. We get possession and the midfield spreads. They do this to try and create a target, an overlap and make Essendon* chase. The Bombers drift into the corridor. When a turnover occurs, we're virtually stuffed as inside they have runners and have a direct route to goal. We don't run back hard enough. Many of our players were flat footed tonight when the opposition got the ball from a turnover. You have to be prepared to run back hard the other way. But again - the stoppage gameplan works if they execute the skills properly. And tonight they didn't. It gets demoralising. You second guess your teammate. My criticism of our gameplan is that it doesn't allow for the run and carry style that breaks the zones and makes defenders make a choice as to whether to push up the ground or stay back one on one. When we do run and carry, our forwards don't react quickly enough. |

Essendon* kicked 10 of their goals from Carlton turnovers, we kicked 4 of ours from theirs. I think the structures that Ratten put in place tonight were completely wrong, but the players have to bear a large share of the responsibility. |

Buzzaaah most of our goals come from random plays rather than proper build up. Nobody leads up the ground and marks in fron of their opponent, they either score froma turnover, goal mouth scramble, or as a result of snap around the body after good fwd line pressure. NO STRUCTURE |

Being unable to recognise the gameplan doesn't mean we don't have one. It simply means you don't know as much about football as you think you do. |

It seems that Ratten is a sacred cow on this website as well as within the club. Leave the players alone. Ratten has no idea, period. Ask yourself this, can you see Ratten on the podium accepting the Premiership cup??? |
