Pros:
*Generally dominated a lot of the play - clearances, contested possessions, possession, inside 50s
*Another game under Waite's belt
*Murphy looks very fit
*Scooter through the middle along with Brock
*Kreuzer's ferociousness
*Plenty of scoring opportunities
*Henderson looked great leading but also at ground level - lots to look forward to.

Cons:
*Inability to convert when opportunities were there - cost us the game
*Had to do too much work in the third qtr - ran out of legs
*Defending kickouts
*Joe Anderson's lack of composure and skill. Don't doubt his courage/effort but you can't afford to have someone in the team with such poor decision making ability.

Cons:
Not enough from the midfield when it counted, failed a test without Judd
Betts had a mare
Anderson...enough said, or possibly not

Pros:
Another game under Hendo's belt
McLean good again
Fev didn't kick the match winner

I was pretty proud of them tonight, not all doom and gloom. Not too many teams will go that close at the Gabba.

Post subject:  Re: R2: Pros and Cons

When you have to work so hard to kick goals, the sheer effort of scoring them will take it toll.

PROS

1. Clearances and hard ball gets – never before have I seen a losing Carlton team dominate so authoritatively at the contested ball. Well done o the ruckmen and midfielders.

2. Scotland – racked em up.

3. Rucks – Can’t speak highly enough of Kreuzer, and Warnock was good at the clearances. We now hold our own in the ruck.

4. Murph – went bananas in the third quarter with a hard tag on him.

5. Simpson – brought the team back in the second half.

CONS

1. The obvious – we labour for our goals. Really labour. And it’s going to make things tough for a long time.

2. Judd wouldn’t have made a difference – weird con, I know, but our midfield had a near complete victory. Add Judd and we have the same problem of goals coming at a premium.

3. Conceding uncontested marks in the centre corridor – it happens too often that some guy is standing alone at CHF for the opposition, and then it is a training drill for the opposition to create a score. Must protect the corridor better.

4. Getting bogged down in the back pocket and HBF – has been happening for too often now. We have a mark in our D50 and our players don’t spread o run hard to create options. Long kick, turnover, opposition goal. Too common.

5. Joe Anderson appears out of his depth too often. Hopefully he gets better.

Its gonna be very hard work over the next few months.

cons:

Post subject:  Re: R2: Pros and Cons

Pros:
An honourable lost, won more of the ball and hard ball gets, but just lacked polish when required
Kreuzer and Murph...........wow!!
Entire midfield was exceptional - big pat on the back to all (special mention to scotland)
Jamo did great job
Defence worked pretty well despite missing Bower who would have gone onto brown when T-bird getting killed
Showed application and pressure all night
Ratts coached well, especially in 3rd qtr when he changed route inside 50

Cons:
We didnt win!!!!
Hendo does not look intense enough with second efforts, need to hit ball and man harder. (but played pretty welll)
Betts had a shocker (it happens)
Goal kicking let us down
few critical errors at crucial times seems to be a common occurrance over last few yrs.
Having to see Fev's disgusting ugly mug

Overall I am disappointed not to win but I am proud of the team. Put Judd and Bower in the team and we would have won

Post subject:  Re: R2: Pros and Cons

Pros:
Simmo- not massive stats but worked his ass off
Murphs first 3 qtrs
Scotlands work esp. in close
Krezuer- How much has his ruck work improved over summer? In the first half it felt like he was winning all the taps and they were all gonig to advantage. I think he will be wearing a cape by 2011.

Cons:
Anderson
Lack of composure and skilful finishing for 3 of 4 qtrs
We still dont have that gorilla backman- Aussie
We didn't get Brown in the Fev trade

not overly dissappointed (you are always dissappointed when you lose) but really, for me that was a lost opportunity.

3.10 after a half of footy and you are always going to struggle. betts had a nightmare, no judd, and j.brown had a day out, and we lost by 3 goals.

3 goals, away from home, against a side many think are top 4. if you told me that at the start of the game, you would take it every time.

still, IMO, we should have won that game.

Hendo and Setanta -a couple of developing key position forwards

Rucks beat Brisbane comprehensively

Jamos game on fev -hollywood did hardly anything - his interview after game nearly crying -he doesnt want to be there

Defence shakey tonight

Turnovers cost a number of goals

Last quarters against Brisbane

Brown always stars against us and never misses even from 55 out n

Noted the same thing, even the missus commented on that interview. He still loves Carlton.
And i am sorry, but I am one of the few who are still sad that Fev isn't at Carlton, but seeing him play for them and his comments after the game were depressing

Why oh why Fev!

Post subject:  Re: R2: Pros and Cons

PROS

Midfield dominance until the last Q when "no neck" racked up getting touches by hanging out the back and waiting for our turnovers

Hendo showed signs (gee I hate waiting for KPs to develop though)

JR was almost faultless yet again.

Ando's 2nd half

Cons

Andos first half

Eddie's Gabba record.....1 goal. :yikes:

Kruez will cop a shocking injury one day the way he runs in with his head down all the time

One or 2 more goals at the finish of the 3rd would have won it for us, as we were all over them.

Our next 6 games

Post subject:  Re: R2: Pros and Cons

Pros- Kruezer will be an all time great. Notice his effort to run the whole ground and get involved in the forward line only moments later...should have kicked the goal though. Serious man-crush going on there.

Anderson's second half... Could have easily dropped his head, but went the other way, and showed more than he ever has.. IMO

Simpson starting at Full forward in the 3rd qtr..was the spark

Mclean, Scotland, Murphy & Gibbs all very good

Hendo and Ohailpin looked ok and are a work in progress, but signs are positive.

Yarran was ordinary, but never stopped chasing, harassing and tackling. If you are having a shocker, at least do this. The first time he has done this.

Cons - Why didnt Ratts move Waite to Brown and try Thornton up forward. When he moved Setanta to Brown in the 3rd, it showed that we were intimidated. Let them worry about us. I believe this was the turning point as we were still up and looking more likely to score .

Our turnovers cost us goals, theirs didnt.

Post subject:  Re: R2: Pros and Cons

Pro's:

Kreuzer is incredible.
Whilst our forward line still needs a lot of work, there is a system there and with only 2 proper games under their belt they're at least showing signs.
Henderson finds good position but drops too many marks.

Con's:
brisbane didn't win by +39.5
Jonathan Brown doesn't play for us.

Post subject:  Re: R2: Pros and Cons

Marciblue I was sad initially but not anymore I think we have seen the best of fev in any case on field and couldnt put up with him anymore with his histrionics both on and off the field - in the long run we will be a better side than Brisbane as they have effectively sold the farm to get a premiership ie recruiting Maguire Fev Staker buchanan clarke and they still arent as good as Saints carringbush dogs or cats -their best players are still brown black power etc -they cant hang on much longer

Lets see whether they beat us if they come to Melbourne in a number of weeks time

In any case Im now enjoying the development of Hendo yarran ando who I think is developing as a player

Post subject:  Re: R2: Pros and Cons

Pros:
Winning the clearances
Russells work in the backline
Scotland and McLeans grund work
Simpson and Murphy owned the 3rd qtr
kruezers rucking and roving

Cons
Gibbs needs to work on his gut running (harsh call but he has the ability to be the best mid in the comp)
Lost opportunity to be 2 and zip
Andersons 1st half
Walker is wasted in the backline (he's an x factor who could be a very good forward)
Seeing fev in a Lions jumper
Forward entries and innacurate kicking in the first half
