Quote:
The Blues must now prepare for a showdown against former favourite son Brendan Fevola. He won't be the focus, however, with Ratten more intent on putting into practice the lessons learned from last year's last-gasp elimination final loss at the hands of the Lions.

"Sometimes your biggest negatives that you have in life or in games of football as a coach can be your greatest teaching tools," he said.

"Maybe that was something that we needed as a group to look at. We played a very offensive brand of football and we had to change and really work a lot harder at the momentum of games.

"It's been a reference point for us to go back to over the summer period. I think it was a great learning curve for us as a team and I think we saw tonight that we didn't play fast footy all the time and we got the balance right."

Limit the supply and we're a massive chance.

let's confuse everyone and ignore Fev, don't put anyone on him and watch him get the sooks because he's not the centre of attention :screwy:

I think we're a shot here.
Should we triple team Fevola and frustrate the hell out of him?

Jamo or Bower will get first crack and I'd like to think that the guys will frustrate the big fool by treating him exactly as they treated Ben Cousins last night. I think we play the Gabba quite well but we're gonna have to be mindful of when we switch the ball against Brisbane. They'll close up a lot quicker than the Tigers did and the passing has to be spot on. If you switch, there has to be a reason for it...you have to have gut runners sprinting to create options and you have to have the long ball being kicked by the right player. Bower isn't that player and will be rushed by the quick Brisbane forwards.

If we lose a tall from last night (suspension or injury) - we're going to have to play Henderson down back.

Errrr, let's not do that :yikes:

The boys seemed very happy with the win last night, but I'm hoping it was a cathartic release as the season's started with a W and all the shit that's been around the club will now float into the ocean. If they were happy purely because they beat Richmond by 9 goals and think on that basis they can compete with the big boys now, I hope they get a reality check at training. Last night was the tension-release, the real work starts now.

Henderson returns to the Gabba to face his old team. He will be getting all the headlines this week you would think!

Is Hadley ok?
Would really love to see him playing against the Lions.

The next two games (Lions, Dons) are the easier of the next 6 weeks so we really need a good result here.

I was thinking of putting Carlos (god help me) back against Brown and throwing Thornton forward. Just an idea. Both Fev and Brown are massive units.

I would love Setanta to get stuck into Fev!

We could do a lot of things, throw Waite back, Henderson back. Ohhh, the flexibility!

I would take one win in the next two.

two match ups that we will need to consider are Brennan and Staker. I would like to see Walker run with Brennan who plays mostly midfield but can push forward to great effect. Bower should get the job on Staker and destroy him but we need to make sure he is taken seriously. We also need to make sure Maguire has to play on someone and not let him run free. Ohailpin would be a good match up for him and would take advantage of Maguires lack of agility.

I dont think that we need to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Leave Santa up forward and let Jamo / T-Bird / Bower work on Fev and Brown.

The only player that must be dropped and/or changed from the line up is Ando (unfortunately).

Otherwise from winning, all I want is Fev to crack a hissy fit  and kick 1.5 or something lik that.

Whilst Santa kicks 4.4 and Hendo 3+

Go Blues!

I'm pretty confident about this match. Apart from that one quarter last year in the final, Brissy have been our bitches for a while now and I'm confident we'll know how to beat Fevola better than any other team.

Blues by 15 points

Our structure is pretty well in place. Let Brisbane worry about us.

Murphy really needed the run against Richmond as did Waite. Both will be the better for it although you will notice Waite hasn't got the confidence to move laterally yet. Armfield (Grigg?) will be / should be back for Anderson. Henderson playing his old team. Warnock blew the cobwebs out in his first game in 12 months.

Plus the team as a whole now realize they can function without Judd and Fev.

With Fev gone, other coaches are going to have to work a bit harder against us. Too easy in the past having three or four blokes gravitate towards Fev. He would mark a few but have the ball swept away twice as often. Now they need to come up with a plan to stop us.

I would treat Fev very nicely. Dont rough him up. Treat him like friend. Talk to him about life. I have seen him get the last laugh too many times when crowds boo him and opposition team harrass him.

Never plays well against the saints. Struggled a little on Tarrant. All mates !

I am sure the club have a few million folder full of info on what goes on in fevs head.

Jamison to Fev; Thornton to Brown; Bower on their third / next option.

Really looking forward to this. They will still be toying with this dud rejects and we should be able to find a number of chinks in the armour. That said they're much more physically mature (theyve loaded up for a tilt at the finals) so clearance work will be much harder than last night. Big night for Mclean and Carrazzo. Id flirt with the tightest tag on Black possible - who is the best option, Grigg? We need to close him down as he is their spark and a brilliant player.

Yarran to kick 5.
