Courtesy of the internet (and TC ![]() What I am wondering is whether Carlton fans have always been so quick to judge before the internet came along? Were there people in the outer jumping up and down in intra-club games in 1986 claiming that Jon Dorotich was going to be our weakest link? Did fans nudge each other in amusement in February 1993 and declare that they just knew Steven Oliver would head back to the bush? Were they whispering before the 1970 grand final that Barassi had no gameplan and that he needed to tell the players to handball and play on at all costs? Were fans at training in the late 60's telling all and sundry that Bruce Doull had to be picked in the seniors? In short, were we more patient before the internet came along? Is it now a race to see exactly who can write off player x in the shortest amount of time so that said poster can claim the 'glory' when that player fails? |

I may have only been three in 86 but I still thought I was faster than Mclean. And I certainly let whoever was on the other end of my string can telephone know about it. |

I was told my a mate who lived near Castlemaine that Oliver wouldn't last. I knew O'Riley was a disaster get I hated it when we recruited Charles from Melbourne. I remember seeing a skinny Sticks a couple of years before he came across and drooling. One look at Motley and he became my favourite. I say Kouta pick up the ball one-handed in a praccie match and looked at my mate and we knew... My brother told me about Johnno before he played a game for us. and so on... The form might be different but really, the fear/hype/expectation etc is the same. |

Sunday - you fought about it Monday - you're a sport about it Wednesday - well it's almost out of sight Thursday - you talked about it Friday - well you're just about it Saturday - well there ain't no doubt about it! Memo Mike Brady...Quite clearly it's time we include 'Tuesday - well you blogged about it' to put us in the 21st century. |

Certainly less bickering and petty bitching amongst the fans. |

I remember saying after the 93 season we need a player with speed like Dean Rice from St Kilda. I didn't even know at that stage he'd been de-listed ![]() I guess the thing was unless you got out and watched out inter club games you had no idea who was playing well so as the old saying goes, ignorance was bliss....you hoped for the best. |

Chased chicks, drank beer, played sport and in my spare time study, which ended up looking at porn on the Uni network. AFL talk was when the chicks ran away, now I think of it that was often ![]() Oh and I did read that we had recruited Earl Spalding after scouring through the list in the results section of the Herald Sun. |

We all knew who could and couldn't play or at least had an opinion, the only difference is that there were less people to tell. Living in sydney, the internet has been a godsend, i can remember having to wait til friday night or saturday morning to get the melbourne newspaper with the teaam listings, or waiting until the sun went down on the weekend to hear abc 774 faintly on the radio on a weekend. except for being at more games, we have better coverage of afl and carlton games than people in melbourne. Still nothing beats being there, but we have the next best thing |

Navy Blue Horse wrote: I used to be far more productive at work. I can relate to that! (Not good when you work for yourself) ![]() Pre-internet it was 'league teams' on a thursday night, anticpation on friday, excitement on sat morning heading to the game with mates talking about the team, post mortems in the pub after and at sat night parties, 'world of sport' sundays, stir up your work mates (or cop it) monday morning. Tues/wed footy drought. ..... and I never went to a pre-season practice match! ...... I've been to 3 this pre-season so internet obviously leads to unhealthy obsession! |
