A bit of Perspective

Had a glance at the AFL bible the other day, and CFC are among the 4 or 5 least experienced/youngest sides in the comp.

Also, when you have a look at my Best 22, it’s startling how many players have played bugger all senior AFL games. Most players don’t become mature, consistent performers until they have played at least 60 games.

Midfield is pretty experienced, though we can’t expect a Murphy or Gibbs to have the strength and legs to keep firing on all cylinders late in a final, like an Ablett or Chapman or Bartel or Hayes or Goddard or Del Santo would be able to.

Backline is very inexperienced, as is much of the forwardline. Henderson looked pretty good against the Lions last Friday, given he has only played 15 games of AFL footy with none as a main focal point up fwd. In 2 years he should hold more marks above his shoulders and be far better overall.

Almost half of my starting 18 haven't yet reached the pre-requisite 60 games.

B Joseph 23, Jamison 34, Bower 45
HB Armfield 26, Thornton 149, Russell 70
C Simpson 110, Gibbs 66, Walker 87
FOLL Kruezer 43, Judd 178, McLean 94
HF Yarran 6, Waite 115, Murphy 80
F Betts 97, Henderson 15, Setanta 58

INT Hadley 58, Warnock 21, Carrazzo 99, Scotland 176, Grigg 35, Hampson 27, Houlihan 182, Robinson 10, Casboult 0, Lucas 0, Davies 0

Amazing that Grigg has had more games than Jamison! :yikes:

Interesting that despite Hadley being one of our older players, has still only played 58 games, which is 12 less than Russell! :yikes:

Interesting thread. Thanks.

Why is Casboult in the squad ahead of Austin?

Casboult hasn't played 14 games and shown anything. :?

Better to have an inexperienced team that is moving in the right direction than an experienced one that has already peaked.

Patience from supporters over the next couple of years will be rewarded..

We, as supporters, have to stop finding excuses. It would be interesting to compare the relative experience of Hawthorn in rnd 1 2008 to us now

It will be pretty easy but also pretty pointless to do your head in over the Carlton Team performance minutae in 2010.

Having said that - at times it is hard not to be caught up in the emotion of the moment - like after a narrow loss..

But people would be far better advised to take a medium to long term view.

The big changes that will propel Carlton flagward will come towards the end of a season - not the beginning.

At least we have a well drilled experienced coach who should have it all down pat now, already understand these young players capabilities inside out, and never make mistakes.
