Apparently Roos said after the Nab Cup game last weekend, that he rates Carlton one of the better/best sides.

can anyone confirm what exactly he said??

Given his history of (at best) back-handed compliments about us in the past, I'd say he's been either misquoted or was being sarcastic.

REPORTER: How do you rate the win, Paul?

ROOS: I rate it right up there. If you're going to break your NAB Cup drought against a side Carlton would be the best side to do it against. I really can't think of a better side to beat.

I guess one could take it sarcastically, but given we gave Sydney their biggest bath for many seasons last year, he could have been dead serious.

I think some people are starting to fall into the "tinfoil hat" brigade about anything anyone ever says about Carlton.

Obviously sarcastic....

In a sense where he is eluding to us being more competative in NAB games more so than the season proper in recent years......

Top bloke in my eyes having had the good fortune of meeting, greeting and eating with the man (wrong thread? ) so I think always take what he says to the media with a grain or salt (and a dash of pepper)...because it's really the media that he's baiting in attempt to give the Swans some NSW headlines (or Sports Tonight) which is a good thing for the game and should be applauded.

You'd have to see Roos' body language too to see if he was being sarcastic or not. I didn't hear/see it.

I'm sure he does...he also knows that last weeks game was a hit and giggle to brush away the cobwebs. He's not stupid, unlike 75% of posters on this site.

I think that Roos dislikes Carlton and any win against us is a good one in his eyes. No biggie

Doc,

I couldn't find much to giggle about watching that performance.

I'm obviously one of the "stupid" 75% because I take unacceptable displays as just that - unacceptable. Whereas you obviously believe we can turn our form on and off like a tap. Sorry, but it doesn't work like that.

Unfortunately, my gut feeling is that we won't match last years result and the "stupid" ones will turn out to be the 25% who refuse to see what is staring them in the face.

Hope I'm wrong and you are right, good Doctor.

I played sport at a professional level for 8 years. At the end of the year I always took a long break. I didn't talk about, read about or play that sport for about 2 months, even though I kept up a very good level of base fitness...but when it came to the real thing, it took a few matches to 'blow out the cobwebs'...physically yes - but more mentally...reminding yourself of things that were second nature before the holiday. My sport required a fair bit of travel...arriving in a strange place, snoozing in a strange bed, waiting for the hours to tick by before you are called into action is not everyone's cup of tea.

I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses for a whole teams performance, but it was was it was...a practice match. You have to think of the variables as well...and there are a lot of them here...it's very early days - take a deep breath...because there's nothing staring me in the face at the moment but hope and the reality that Carlton can succeed. Say it with me now...YES.WE.CAN
