Lets be honest it wasn't a 12 point loss. It was a 6 point loss.
Had we had real scoring we may have tried a little harder in the last few minutes.
We were also without

Ryan Houlihan
Andrew Walker
Kade Simpson
Setanta O’hAilpin
Eddie Betts
Marc Murphy
Dennis Armfield
Jarrod Waite
Mark Austin

They were only missing O'Keefe, Bradshaw & White.

What the loss really shows is the holiday approach to interstate games.

Anyway - Geelong, Essendon*, Collingwood & Brisbane also lost, so this is serious stuff.

If you have so much to say on this forum, I look forward to seeing you at the next AGM, where your opinion really counts.

Hey, I don't think you know the rules.

Being rational is simply forbidden in these parts. It was a loss. A loss that will prove crippling for the club. We will never, ever recover from this pre-season loss to Sydney.

Pack it up, demolish the stands, tear down the training centre, bulldoze the place...

We're not coming back from this.

And if Yazza was a little bit straighter with his kicking he not only would've been BOG, he would have taken the limelight away from Jetta and we would've won the game.

Both teams struggled in the humid conditions, and both forwardlines' bigmen struggled. Flooding was the name of the game. Nevertheless it was entertaining and there were some very good signs for Carlton.

Having said that, there were a handful of players who haven't got their touch right atm, and there were some basic errors by hand and foot which I would have expected them to be much better at. Now if those players who just didn't seem to be ready for senior AFL atm, are the bottom six with the abovementioned 9 players missing, then we will do much better when they are back at the Bullants learning their craft as the seniors return for battle.

We needed to move the ball faster imo, to beat the flooding and give the forwards some space to work in. Accountability is an area we can also improve.

I still expect us to make the 8.

O'Keefe - regular Carlton killer, gun
Bradshaw - 5 in final @ Gabba, see O'Keefe too. Swanny and co didn't chase him hard for nothing....
White - 4 in first 1/2 @ Dome last year, kept them in the game. A future gun, would waltz into our fwd line.

Based on quality, not quantity, they weren't far off us in the "outs" department. Think again.

Murphy, Waite & Simpson would go close to those 3. Then throw in the other 5 or 6.

yep can't beat logic displayed here. So Simmo wouldn't waltz into theirs? Waite? Murph? Tex? Betts? Houla? That's double in my counting but hey, not far off. Add Santy (who i think would play at the Swans although others don't think so, Army too and Austin, But hang on they are Carlton players so we must subtract those 3 and then halve that equation and, well actually, given they are Carlton, Swans outs win every time. :garthp:

Add in context - you know its a hot night and its Feb which is when run is all the go (especially for 9 pointers) and we're play 4 ruckmen - cos yeah we'll do that regularly in season proper - now 4 ruckmen mean at least 1 less runner in a game all about run so less rotations etc. But hey lets forget that too. Lets forget Warnock was doing well but his training meant he was to rest after 1/2 time no matter what - so hey we're real serious here - I figure we'll do that numerous times in the season proper also, let's also ignore we had one praccie match before this game - i'll bet a quadzillion swannies had at least 2 (double but in this bizzarro Carlton zone you subtract all things that undermine an anti-Carlton argument) and we lost by zillions of points while playing on our home turf.

Point taken, just thought the rover a little dismissive of their outs, especially how well they play against us. I did say "weren't far off".

To be truly honest you would have included Rhys Shaw to that list. I think he won their B&F last season.

Don't forget Yarran caufield, we need to trade that cancer out of our club immediately. Waste of a pick.

What I liked about the game is that we used it for 'practice'. We tried Jacobs and Warnock as rucks. Jacobs is a classy tap and a good honest battling ruck for insurance. Warnock is big athletic and did okay.

Our forward structure was terrible but I guess we needed to try it. Hammo is a ruckman and should be used as such, with maybe a run up forward occasionally. Very athletic but dooesn't have great hands and not great below his knees. Big K is soon to be our second best player and will be a champion ruckman, or a battling CHF, I'd ratrher use him in his best position - the ruck, but I expect he may be used as a CHF. Warnock looks promising but not sure why you give up a lot to recruit a ruck when we have potentially the best ruck in the league in Big K and developing support in Jacobs and Hammo.

I expect next week they will play Setanta at FF. He is the best option. I thought hendo battled well but needs time and may become a key defender before he becomes a key forward. We learnt it will be tough to have Hadley and Mclean in the one side. Hadley was good, McLean dreadful, but he is a much better player than that. Anyway it was an ordinary game and we experimented and tried things which I expect we will do in each pre season game, after all they are practice games.

Also, while I support the club's Fev decision, we need to be realistic. he will be very hard to replace.

Compare us to North and how their young team competed and threw everything at Geelong. Its a shame that our boys can't or wont show that sort of desperation and spirit !

We beat them last year with ROK, White and Micky O playing last year.
We had Warnock, Walker, Waite, Jamison, o'hAlpin and Wiggins all out injured. Stevens was also missing. Austin just finished serving his supsension.

We also has Bentley, Grigg, Anderson and Johnson on the bench for depth.

We beat them by 61 points. I look forward to meeting them in the H & A.

 to caulfieldrover.

The weekend was disappointing, sure, we clearly didn't play very well at all.

But we still have a lot to look forward to in 2010 and beyond.

While people are considering the time it will take for us fully develop, have a read of these lyrics...

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
