Post subject:  Players you thought would make it

Searched for a topic about this and was unable to find one, apologies if there already is a topic though.

One player that springs to mind is one from the 2000s. Justin Davies I thought would make it as a great player for our club. Our round 7 2004 match against Collingwood made me feel this way; where we trailed by 20 points at 3/4 time, with Davies booting 3 important goals in the last term to get us over the line. Can't remember what year he got delisted, I'm pretty certain he was around in 2005 but don't recall seeing him after that.

I thought Teague would be around longer than he was. In 2004 he had a great year, winning the best and fairest, but began to struggle in 2006 and not much was seen of him after that. Although, it could be argued that he 'made it' as he won our best and fairest. But on the other hand, it could also be argued that if he had 'made it', then he may still be running around in the seniors today, being 28/29 years of age.

I'm sure there are plenty more.

Discuss.

I thought Trent Sporn always looked a likely type. David Gallagher from memory played pretty well in his first game for us against the Saints I think - turned out to be pretty ordinary.

Brendon Parker from the early '90's.

Robert Dutton: Played some great games in the magoo's in the late seventies/early eighties. Only cut it for one senior game before moving to Hawthorn for one game there as well.

In all fairness though, it would have been pretty hard to crack a game for Hawthorn or Carlton in the late 70s/early 80s. I know I would have been glad to get one game for them then

Too true Captain Dan, even the twos were a good team to watch in that era.

Out of the ones listed, this is the biggest one for me. Why somebody would throw away an opportunity of a lifetime for drugs is beyond me, particularly considering the talent he had.

A shocking waste.

I assume that is the Robert Dutton from Launceston? Bloody good footballer, chose the two toughest clubs to break into. Would have been a regular with the lower sides.

Ex-Footscray if I remember correctly. He played some servicable footy for us in 2001 but went down hill from there for mine.

I had forgotten all about him until the intra club match the other week. There was a bloke playing, and forgive me but I still don't know his name, but from a distance he looked like Plunkett.

Showed some very promising flashes in some matches, and was better than just good, IMO, even if not great. He, like some others, got burned and ditched by the club at a time when we were very poor, and players like him seemed to carry the can for poor performances.

Steven Oliver......"The Coleman from the Bush" had everything to be a superstar; but hated City life and went home.

Damien Lock.....starred with the first 12 games of 1998; but contracted O.P.

Sean Charles.....so much talent; dominated the 1998 preseason, but broke his leg in his first game for us....and never really recovered.

He used to be playable in AFL '99 on playstation if I remember correctly. I got a bit out of him. Maybe it was my coaching.

Oliver, Sporn and Backwell top my list. Angwin and Livo are obvious ones.
