It has become painfully obvious that the Herald Sun has chosen Carlton as it pet topic for tabloid gossip and ridicule. I fear this vendetta will continue for months, doing untold damage to the reputation of our club.

I believe there is only one way to stop this and in the process redeem ourselves for the boat cruise debacle. The players need to make a massive gesture of goodwill to the community. If every player donated one rounds salary to a chosen charity, this would wipe out all damage that has been done. They could wear special jumpers for the game and really promote it. Overnight the perception of Carlton players would change from being selfish and arrogant to caring and generous.

It’s a big call but a REAL sacrifice it’s the only way to fix the current situation.

Behave and win games of footy, that is all that is required.

On field respect is one thing, but respect for being a positive influence in the community is another thing. The reputation of our players as poor roll models will not change by winning games of football.

First thing i'd consider is not to come out with cocky slogans asking for trouble.

The problem here is most of the footy world are expecting us to fall apart in 2010, the Herald Sun are pre-empting this, getting in early somehow hoping it may play a part derailing our season.

Carlton helps sell papers and no bigger story in 2010 is the mighty 'cocky' blues come crashing down. Thats what everyone in the media want

Hopefully this doesn't happen and we prove them wrong.

Or carltonfc.com.au to hire three muckracking journalists, assigned 24/7 to Herald Sun journalists.

Our journo's would report every shenanigan the herald sun boys and girls get up to, on duty and off.

Although no-one really cares what journalists get up to, I reckon by the end of the year we'd have more stories on them than they'd have on us.

They got pissed on a boat...like all the other clubs wouldn't?
They played drinking games with a new recruit...like all the other clubs wouldn't?
They had a stupid drunken fight at a casino...like all the other clubs wouldn't?

Build a bridge people.

All we want from the Carlton Football club is good Foota!

Pride, Respect and Valour will be earned on the park.

Go Blues...stick it up em!

It's a great idea, and one that should probably be considered irrespective of any other matters.

In terms of expecting it to change the mantra of the Herald-Sun, nah, won't achieve much. I suggest you just deal with it.

Agreed. They'll only see it as more of an excuse to bring up the past indiscretions and the fact we're being reactive to the negative press. Every story about us will end with a mention to the booze cruise, and given the intelligence of your average Carlton-basher, that's what they'll remember from reading it. Nothing we can do about it.

The best thing we can do is stop giving them ammunition, forcing them to raw even longer bows to get their stories and then go on the attack for the slander we've endured. We can whinge and complain all we like about how our club is being portrayed, but let's not be so delusional to think we've done nothing to justify it.

I'd bring in Tod Greenberg as a consultant. Look at what he has done while CEO of Canterbury. He has turned the culture of the place 180 degrees. The public perception followed.

This year they gave away one of their jumper sponsorships to Camp Quality for the entire season. I don't know what a minor jumper sponsorship is worth but surely the goodwill a move like that would bring would be worth it.

Yes winning is the only answer. While West Coast were winning GFs the media didn't care less about the Chicks, Kerrs, Cousins, Fletchers....not until they started to go down hill.

The media didn't seem to care about Buddy Franklin while Hawthorn were going strong in 2008.

A winning team earns respect (sometimes short lived) and the media love them because they need access to winners to help generate a dollar.

Many have pointed out the Herald Sun are trawling through TC looking for stories.

A few more threads accusing them of bias against us will definitely help our cause

Best thing we can do is give them nothing negative to write about.
