Some of the names in that team just reinforce the bad decade we had.

The first 18 is pretty decent (with perhaps the exception of French). We had some pretty good players at the club during the decade, although some of the better ones only just qualify. (A lot of the better players in this team would also feature in the team of the 90s.) Also shows how really poor our overall depth has been.

Doesn't look so bad until you look at the bench.

And if you need any further proof of how poorly we performed, we even had to revive the Player/Coach days

Would have thought Matty Allan would get a spot before French.

Pity McKernan fell 9 games short of the selection criteria. He would have got in for mine.

Why did the club feel the need to print this? It doesn't serve any purpose as far as I can ascertain, aside from serving as a bit of a slap in the face for a few current players who didn't make the grade. It might just be Tony de Bolfo's opinion, but that's an opinion that is viewed by many as an authoritative one given his credentials and relationship with current club administration. In what was our darkest decade - it's my opinion that there was no need.

Pointless exercise. It's almost as if the criteria was designed to formulate the weakest team possible.

I guess for Allan to make it you'd have to put all the value on his 2000. From 2001 onwards he is injured and the shell of a player that we all loved in the years before. his 1999 was pretty incredible.

What about a worst team of the decade?

Surely we had better players than Houlihan and Teague.

Well, if he had got in it would have further proven what a shit side we had during that period and what a shit truck McKernan really was then.

Let's not have this debate again.

Could someone from the Carlton admin tell us why we would want to be reminded yet again of the worst decade in the club's history? : confused:

He wouldn't have got close to 50 games in the decade, would he? He was great 1999 and 2000 but hardly played after that from memory.

Yeah verbs, that's right. He would have played the whole season or so in 2000 but then 2001-2003 he'd have played no more than 5-6 games in each year. So on the decade 2000-2009 he wouldn't qualify.

..i liked Barnaby, remember back then he was ok as a ruck, not great but he was solid, it's just he had no real support and week after week he couldn't keep up carrying that much of a ruck load.. ..pretty sure that fact, and the constant hammerings was why he retired a year or two early..

..i'd probably have JR and Tex/Wiggo on the bench, ahead of hulme and teague.. ..though teague's B&F year was out-standing, he was never the same after gettin' kinghit durin' that off-season..
