Just watched the 2nd quarter St Kilda Rnd 12 game from last year and the big Irish did so well. Setanta presented, crashed bodies, worked his backside off and took a couple of ripper marks. I reckon he will have a great year with hopefully getting the chance to settle into a role. He is one big, mobile unit and I look for a break out year for him with out the former Coleman Medallist in his ear. Probably will always be a little rough around the edges but still full of promise.

Funny you mention that because as i just posted in another thread asking if Setanta has gotten over the clotting issues with his leg.

Hi all,

Has Setanta fully participated in the pre christmas training period. I recall him having recurring problems late last year with the clotting in his legs and wanted to know if any of you know if he has recovered.

That was a great quarter Setanta played against the Saints. Same against the Dockers too.

I have no problem with im having first go at CHF if his preseason continues to go right for him.

Big, mobile and nimble.

We have plenty of options to go with in the forwardline>

Talls: Setanta, Henderson, Waite, Kreuzer, Hampson, Thornton
Mids: Houlihan, Walker, Yarran, Gibbs
Smalls: Betts Murphy

and so on

I also watched the Lions Round 11 game and Lachie Henderson played in defence. Got some size about the boy and gets real distance with his kicking.

Must say it will be so strange watching Fevola not in a CFC jumper. Mixed feelings. Still think we will be better of long term.

I don't want to go off on too much of a tangent but in that game, the commentators were yanging on about how much defensive pressure Fev was putting on as if it was something marvellous. That should be a given and I would expect our forward line this year to have that as a not negotiable for all players in the forward line.

I was gunning for Danny Bradshaw, as I highly underestimated our forward line without Fev, but looking at the list of talls and midsize/small forwards we have it ain't so bad afterall. Looking forward to an exciting year ahead and I'm sure it will be VERY refreshing for us fans to see some different goalkickers make their name.

I have witnessed the ball go through Hampsons hands to many times when trying (repeat trying) to mark the ball.

I have big hopes for Santa this season.

Setanta's fitness is the key for him.

He must build a real fitness base and get over his leg issues if he wants consistent opportunity.

I think Setants would have to be given first crack at CHF. I would be playing Henderson at FF with Fisher and Betts/Garlett on either side of him. Yarran, Robinson, Carrazzo, Walks, Lucas and Wiggins are our main HFF options. Krueze to rotate through the forward pocket. Surprise packets who could play a part up forward also - Austin, Thornton, ROK, Tiller and Casboult.

Waite coming off a knee reco will most likely start the season off half back and if all goes well should find himself playing roles up forward towards mid season.
