Swann nearly had us what would have been the annual good friday fixture with hawthorn.

I think we need to keep pushing for this, I read in the paper today Port want in on the game now.

It would be a huge income boost for us if we were to get it.

I hope we can get it against a hawthorn or maybe an Essendon*.

I doubt Port would be considered if Good Friday footy was given the green light.

We should keep pushing for it with Hawthorn.

Was discussed at the AGM tonight so please see my comments there, but basically if it happens we'll more than likely be involved, but it won't happen while Andrew Demetriou is in charge.

Excellent.

Glad to see that if it happens we'll be involved.

I really think the game will benefit Victoria as well, not just Carlton/Hawthorn.

It can be a real focal point of the day, something for everyone to enjoy.

And I am sure both clubs would be willing to do as much as possible to raise money for the Good Friday Appeal as part of the match, so that everybody wins.

I'm pretty happy that we're playing 'Maundy Thursday' footy...beating the Lions at the Gabba Thursday night will go a long way to ensuring I have a 'good' Friday.

Religion has a place everywhere you look....

From swearing on the bible to tell the truth at court...to buying presents at Christmas....to getting married and staying faithful to one person....to doing to others as you would have them do unto you....

I don't wish to start anything here and Good Friday is just another day to me but I have to disagree that religion has no place in football as it has a place in every law abiding Australian citizens life because our laws and standards for a whole lot of things derive from religion....good or bad it's a fact.

..how do atheists get by in society..?.. .... ..look, i understand how religion at one time underscored society values, and alot of modern law derives from those origins.. ..but, religion needs to stay out of sport, likewise politics, law etc etc.. ..different religions can clash on certain values/beliefs/traditions etc etc.. ..thats why, as a society we need to go by secular law, and only that.. ..sport, like other parts of society, has its place..in sport..like religion sticks to itself, etc etc.. ..good friday not utilised in the afl sporting calendar is a joke..

All for it.

The thing I don't understand is people say, ohh it's Good Friday you can't play sport on Good Friday.

Well somebody better tell the Italians who play all of Serie B games on Good Friday.

Whether they like it or not when they get married it is entirely biblical.

I understand you and you do make a good point about all the different religions...I'm sure Good Friday has no meaning to Bachar Houli. If Australia wants to seriously be multi cultural then we need to consider all religions...although when our laws are built upon christianity it makes it a little bit difficult.

..a civil service marriage isn't biblical.. ..i agree, much of the way our country is run, is as a christian country.. ..the sooner we ditch that, the better..

Thousands of people don't get married in churches, every weekend.

@#$%&! me, Good Friday is one of the most boring dead-end days of the year, to have a game of footy to watch whilst everything is shut would be a breath of fresh air.

I couldn't care less if the Christians boycotted and the game had 1000 people at it. At least there would be footy on a otherwise boring day.

It's in the bible.

When you get married you are doing it because God told us that it's the way to go...to pair up...have a family...stay faithful.

I don't give a @#$%&! if you do it in the loungeroom or the park, it doesn't stop the concept of marriage being totally peculiar to religion.

But yes Good Friday is boring and I would happily watch some footy on that day...

I can understand however, how some wouldn't.

I get your point, but I think with the separation of Church and State, marriage is legal rather than religious in Australian Society. If couples decide to make their legal union a religion-based one, then it's their choice, but not mandated at all. There are very few things which are mandatory when it comes to the act of marriage, and religion isn't one.

Yeah i understand. Although I think if you have been living together for a certain amount of time you are considered married by the law anyway so is it a necessity for law? I'm not sure.

You don't have to be religious to be married I'm just saying that marriage would not have come to be if it weren't for religion.

Everyone is a product of their society and our society is a product of our religion so therefore we are all a product of our religion...religion has shaped the way we think.....it just may play a bigger part in peoples lives than they have considered.
