"I got to speak with Dwayne earlier today, the first time in about two weeks, and I made sure to ask him what you wanted to know about your Australian stuff. He has been approached and it'll tie in with the second of the two movies that he has coming out -- more than likely they'll air the Australian ad then the movie trailer ad or vice versa. The Australian group wants to have several of their well known people copy his most famous catchphrase "If ya smell what the Rock is cookin'" and screw it up and then they want to have Dwayne do the line for the company and then push the product by saying "no, no, no get it right Jabronis can you smell what the company is cookin'". Dwayne's interested in doing it because as you know he spent part of his childhood in New Zealand and he got to see your sports when he was living there so he knows more about it than most of us do. The other thing that you asked as for them getting his permission to do it, he said that he gave them permission a while ago. He liked the idea. Again, it was something he remembered watching a little bit of when he was growing up so it brought back some memories for him. Dwayne's always sentimental"

So, there you go.

I can't confirm it from the Blues side of things, perhaps someone else can. However, I find the following commercial to be kinda hilarious

Chris Judd "If ya smellllllllll what The Judd is cookin'" (messes it up somehow)
Marc Murphy "If ya smellllllll what The Murphy is cookin'" (messes it up somehow)
Bryce Gibbs "IF ya smellllllll what The Gibblett is cookin'" (messes it up somehow)
The Rock "no, no, no, Jabronis, get it right. Can ya smelllllllllllllll What the Blues are cookin'" (people's eyebrow)
*highlights for about 10 seconds of CFC in 2009* "Know ya role Blues fans and get your memberships TODAY"
*membership hotline number & CFC logo => fade to navy/black*
*The Rock's movie commercial*

Hopefully they film it in time to air prior to round 1. Simple but would be the best ever AFL membership commercial.

Could be great; could be cheesy; could be awful. Let's hope all the money isn't spent on securing the rock and the ad comes up better than the boys' Visy recycling effort about 18 months back.

Yes, Miami. Was a Hurricane and played on the football team.

Then he played in the CFL (Canadian Football League) before he quit that to go wrestle.

Just a question, if this pans out [Rock doing a TVC with the boys], does this make the campaign a little bit more palatable for those that didn't like it?

Or do you just hate the campaign regardless if the Rock becomes involved?

If it's well made - then well and good. But the marketing wasn't aimed at me to start with (which in itself may have been a mistake) and I think they overestimate how many people watched WWE in the 90's/00's to form a correlation to the catchphrase.

I would prefer it not be a repeat TVC...but a viral clip, which could work much better...and save the club a bundle of money - because the people who it's aimed at are going to see it in viral marketing form.

Very good suggestion Doc as you are right - the TA for this type of campaign probably spend less time watching TV than ever before [no doubt because of the crap that is on TV  ].

If Mark H is reading this thread, what Doc said is the way to go.

This would be fantastic to see happen. To be honest I had a feeling that they may have been going down this path. The slogan is ripped off from The Rock as we all know and all those terms and catchphrases penned in wrestling circles become official trademarks as soon as they become popular. There is no way the Blues would even be able to use the line unless they had legal permission to do so.

That has obviously been granted and therefore I wouldnt be at all surprised if they went the next step and had The Rock do the commercial. It would make the slogan worthwhile and give the membership campaign a good kick along...

That would be absolutely hilarious. I haven't liked wrestling since year 5 but I still love the Rock, easily my favourite wrestler (which, truth be told, isn't that great an accomplishment, given I know about 5-10). How awkward will it be when some of our players do it on the ad?

"Can you smeeeeell, what the boys who are giving 110% one week at a time, will hopefully be cooking with a bit of luck?"

It's impossible to make a 'viral' clip; you can only make a clip and hope it's outrageous or funny enough to go viral. The odds of this happening are astronomical: for every John West Bear, there's 20 million clips with 845 views on youtube.

A few years ago, the advertising industry was beset upon by clients who demanded one of these magic 'viral' ads for themselves. Trouble was, virtually none of them would ever put their brand to the sort of outrageous entertainment that you need to do, in order to go viral.

This is the gold standard of sports-related clips that go viral. If we think we can do as well, let's go for it. But I highly doubt it:

Having said that though, it'd be good to see the club get out of the stone age in regards to the online space.

That was hilarious.

There was a great line in that clip for Carlton's 2011 campaign.

"Are You Ready For The Pain" No question mark
