Who would have thought?

Hope members get cheap flights. I'm going to Malaysia in September 2009.

It can be a Blueseum/Malaysia partnership. 8)

Maybe we can have that sanctimonious bastard, Dr Mahatir as our #1 ticket holder then. It is only a few of years since the whole country boycotted Australian-made products because he didn't like called being called, 'recalcitrant'.
I'll take the money but it won't make me want to go back there. It's a dump. People unfriendly to Australians in my experience and the best thing about KL is the departure lounge at the airport.

Just got back from Malaysia (Penang and not KL though) on honeymoon and couldn't disagree more.

Surely some parts of Mexico City or Guadalajara or Puerto Vallerta or Acapulco or what have you are a dump compared to some of Malaysia?

People were extremely friendly to us, even if they were keen to push a deal when shopping, but the same could be said of Hong Kong, Singapore, anywhere really particularly in this climate.

Sure there's some parts that are a bit 2nd world but it doesn't make the country a dump.

I tell you, their 5 star resorts make our 5 star resorts look like 3 star ones.

Their colonial past is as equally interesting as ours and they preserve it to the extent where some of it is UNESCO heritage listed.

A dump indeed.

When my family visited Malaysia we stayed at the house of a family friend right in the heart of KL.

It was a wonderful experience to see exactly how the locals live on a day to day basis and be the recipient of such sincere hospitality.

Well done to the admin of the club on what is really a historic sponsorship for the AFL let alone Carlton.

While it might not break records in terms of dollars it is a great effort considering the oncoming recession/depression and it expands the horizons to truly international options. Sure collingwood has Emirates, but that is more a multinational company, rather than a different country.

I spend 10 days working in KL about six years ago and loved it.

I found the people really friendly, and everyone I met seemed to either have a friend or a relative who was studying in Melbourne.

And the food... holy crap, I've never eaten so well before or since.

I'd go back for sure.

I've been to KL (1996) and quite a few of the local men wanted photos taken with my wife, who is fair and blonde. That wasn't always a pleasurable experience. So, while other aspects of our visit were quite good, I wouldn't follow the Clem/Jarusa mantra just yet.

Interesting that it's a one year deal. I wonder how likely the option is and if there are some sort of targets set for the sponsorship to meet for a second year to kick off.

If the Malaysia deal does only last one year, then we'll have to wait until 2010 for the "massive" Etihad sponsorship.

Agree with BS, Dr. Mahatir is a sanctimonious piece of crap. Him and Paul Keating would make a fine romance. Both as bad as each other.

Aside from the leader of the country though the place is awesome, well worth a visit for the people that haven't been there.

When you look at it these sponsorship deals with tourism boards they are a relatively cheap form of getting your brand out there. Very happy to have them onboard.

I think Sparky hit it on the head, the word MASSIVE though seems to be becoming more irrelevant by the day

Well done Swanny and CO!

In this financial climate any major sponsorship signings are like gold.

The clubs admin is really putting on a show of late.

I travel to KL three or four times a year on business. i'll be heading over again next week.

People are very friendly, the foods great, terrific hotels, cost of living is cheap compared to here and i've never had any problems with the locals when i say i'm from Australia.

Oh, a just to bring a few posters up to date, Dr Mahatir is no longer Prime Minister, he retired a few years ago.
