I've always had a single player who was my favourite at any given point in time. Sometimes retirement forced a change, and sometimes it simply changed when another player caught my eye. My list: Peter Bosustow Winner of GOTY and MOTY in the same season. I was shattered when he returned to WA. Wayne Johnston Loved his nickname and the way he always seemed to step it up another gear in big games. Paul Meldrum Wore #23 for several years when I played basketball but people assuming I was paying homage to Michael Jordan and the associated "thinks he's as good as Jordan, pffft" comments saw me trade to #8. Stephen Silvagni It was a couple of seasons into SOS's career that I proclaimed that he'd win the Brownlow one day. I was ultimately wrong but I think that's more to do with it being a midfielder's medal that anything else. Anthony Koutoufides Did things on a footy field that I had never seen before. Some games seemed like "Koutoufides gathers the ball on the defensive goal line and passes to Koutoufides on the defensive 50 who runs in down to the wing and hands if off to Koutoufides who pumps it long into the goal square.......KOUTAAAAAAAAA TAKES A MARK OVER THE PACK!!!" Jarrad Waite Can pull off the ridiculous yet stuff up the basics. The game he played after the passing of Vin still brings a lump to the throat today when I think about it. MW's favourite Carlton player also. |

When I first started - Sergio Silvagni (had a big No 1 on duffel coat and he was the captain). When I started following more seriously at age 14-17 - Nicholls, John Gould, Brent Crosswell, and Jezza During my 20s, it was Walls, Jezza, Swan McKay, Fitzy. In my 30s - Braddles, Paul Meldrum. In the 1990s, I was overseas for pretty much the whole decade. From the bits I caught, it was Kouta. In the past nine years, well there really was only one: Fev And now: Hell, I love em all!!!! |

Brent Crosswell started the Carlton affair - could do anything and often did! Jezza in the 70's The Dominator in the 80's - GF's said it all! Bradley in the 90's - when he played well, so did we. Andy Walker in '0's - just love to see him with confidence in his body and himself - an excitement machine waiting to happen. |
