Andrew Carazzo started out his career in the Carlton seniors as a defender, with some success against opposition forward pockets. He then moved into the midfield due to his abilities as a "ball magnet". However he has been criticised for his disposal by foot. Last season he played some games up forward as a defensive half forward flanker, and managed to snag a few goals in the process (11 goals from 14 games). Looking forward to the 2010 AFL season, where would you play Carazzo? |

Personally I'd like to see him as a defensive half forward flanker again next season. He's shown that he can do a good job shutting down the opposition's best rebounder. His kicking is alright over short distances, and only really gets bad when he tries to kick long. Playing forward would see him kick short more often, and lessen the impact of a bad kick. If you're going to turn the ball over, the forward 50 is the place to do it. He has also shown himself to actually be a pretty good shot at goal. Players that can pass the ball well by foot often have problems maintaining that accuracy when kicking for goal. Strangely Carazzo seems to be the exact opposite. I think his kicking improves when he's shooting at goal. |

I prefer a fit McLean and Hadley as our in and unders and Judd Gibbs Murphy as our main midfield disposers. We have specialist small forwards and defenders now as well so I see Carrotts as a fringe player. |

I went forward. He seems to be a much better kick for goal than field kicker, and his tenacity would work well with Garlett and co. |

..gone forward as well.. ..and not just as a neg type player either, he's actually a good small leading/marking fwd.. ..it was just he'd pepper the goals for nada but points [six in one game i think?].. ..but this past season he was nailin' shots from varying degree's of difficulty, and real 'crunch' type goals as well.. ..with the idea of rotatting prime mids thru the fwd line, carrots can just rotate with them for stints on the ball.. ..faster/safer than interchanging, and he has huge endurance to do it.. |

He will always be a damaging forward because no matter where he plays, he knows where to run to to get the ball. He's very damaging when kicking inside 50 as well as long as it's no longer than a distance of 40 metres. Anything over that is when the errors occur. Hit Fev lace out many a time last season and off both sides of the body as well. |

Carazzo may be our best fix it guy....send him where we have a need for a guy to a job each week. One week it may be as a defensive forward, the next as an extra midfielder. He has enough maturity in his game now that he can handle playing different roles from week to week. I imagine he'd be one of our first picked each week. |

Id more imagine judd, gibbs, murph, kreuzer, jamo, simpson and jarred would be one of our first picked each week. I got him on the pine at this stage |

As much as I like to give the kids and new players a go, and often have Carrazzo on the pine in my teams, it is not a reflection of how much I value Carrazzo. He's in my 22; no doubt. Tough hardened body, strong, experienced and a proven ball 'magnet'. I voted midfield, and I consider the HF line as part of the midfield. I have no doubt that Carrots will play roles everywhere, as a 'Mr fix it' and will feature in the midfield at times. His kicking over the last year improved out of sight. Good shot at goal. |

..lookit, today's game doesn't have 'the pine' anymore.. ..or rather, the bench is where the injured rest up, cos there's so many interchanges a game now, with a bias towards runners,, that starting on the bench isn't a slight on the player.. ..Murph played many a game last season where he started on the bench.. ..seen J.Selwood start a heap of geelong games on the pine as well.. ..ditto with other 'good' players, especially in teams with high talent.. ..the more carrots starts games on the pine, the better we are.. ..not because he doesnt deserve to start on field [he's good enough], but more-so the higher quality 'bench' you have, the better you are overall.. |

I picked forward, not so much because of his ability, but more for the fact that we are very inexperienced in the forward line and his strength, tenacity, outstanding leadership qualities will provide our young guys with some direction during the game. BTW I also believe that Carazzo was out most improved player last season, his kicking has improved out of sight, his decisions much better and really stood up at crunch times during games whhere we needed him to. He would be in my best 22 for that reason and also because of his first class character. |

It's a tough one but I say Bullants. I really like the way Carrots goes about his footy and IMO his disposal improved a lot in 2009. But unfortunately I see him as a fringe player now. Guys like Judd, Mclean, Murph, Gibbs, Hadley, Simpson, Walker and Russell have all gone pass him now IMO. Which means he is now competing for a spot in the 22 against guys like Armfield, Scotland, Grigg, Houlihan, Robinson, Yarran, Browne and co. It's a nice dilemma for the MC to have but it will mean that a quality mid like Carrots may find himself lining up for the Bullants a fair bit in 2010. |

With those names in mind, my bet is that he will not be playing in the Ants unless he is returning from injury. There wouldn't be many of the abovementioned who could accumulate 50 possessions in a game in the Ants, and there's good reason for that. When they can, they deserve to take Carrazzo's spot assuming he is not accumulating and retaining his position. You can have them knocking as much as you like, but unless a senior player drops form and loses their position, those in the lower pecking order will continue knocking till their time comes. I look forward to the lesser likes taking over from Carrazzo. I haven't got a crystal ball, and just voicing my opinion on Carrazzo, and I can only base that on his most recent games and compare the others from the same period; the most recent period. |
