Here is an out there idea...... Now that we are stuck with Fisher, someone bloody teach him how to kick.

He has the best hands in the business - but his kicking is woeful.

How can it be that we have so many coaches, development people etc and no-one can successfully teach him to kick.

Did anyone see him in the Bullants GF ? Could not believe some of his kicks for goal.

Is this possible or am I dreaming !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And why does he not stay forward, he is always going up to the wing to lead an mark. He needs to be close to goal, or not on the field at all.

I thought his kicking when he was in the seniors this year was vastly improved. That doesn't mean he was kicking it Anthony Rocca type distances, but he was getting much more accurate and managing to make the journey from 40-45 on a much more consistent basis. In fairness I didn't see the Bullants' grand final - though I understand at least one of his efforts was pretty ordinary.

Fisher's biggest problem isn't his kicking... it is his lack of defensive ability when we don't have the ball. Footy is all about having a really accountable forward line these days, and Fish can't give us that. I suspect that is also at least a part of the reason Cam Cloke won't be with us next year. We spent most of the year teaching Yarran to have some accountability, and he showed the benefits of that in the Adealide Crows game. I'm expecting a forward line that will mostly consist of Betts, Garlett, Yarran, Robinson, Henderson, and Setanta and an emphasis will be on accountability.

Be good if he could do an Earl. I think a 40% pay cut prompted his improvement in 94 or 95.

go to any training session and fish is one of the hardest trainers out there. i saw him numerous times working on his kicking, fitness, agility etc. the simple fact is he doesnt have it. questions need to asked who signed him to a two year deal. same question about johnson as well. we are just lucky that brisbane are paying most of fevs wage. some strange decisions made over the past few years.

Fish's kicking issues are psychological as much as they are physical. It's like a golfer with the putting yips.
He has lost all concept of his natural kicking style. Unfortunately he has been told a thousand methods to cure his problems and they have all contributed to an exascerbation of the issue.

I think you'll find he might have been kept on under the 'Luke O'Sullivan' rule in that he's a great bloke and clubman and a handy replacement should a forward go down. Simon Wiggins was also on the same contract. Fish has been slowed down through injury which in turn leads to lack of confidence. However his kicking - never his strong suit - improved significantly in training when he adopted a slight variation on the 'Fevola hold'. He even won his fair share of kicking comps at training sessions, (you can go back and read my training reports for verification), yet unfortunately this never crossed over into matchday performance whether with the Blues or Bullants.

If only Fish had had the VFL Grand Final that Cloke had...unfortunately - Adelaide and St.Kilda, the clubs that were interested in him at the end of 2008 were no longer interested at the end of '09. Even without Fevola, I can't see him breaking into the lineup for 2010.

I don't think he is not in the team due to his kicking. I think it is more to do with his lack of pressure and poor tackling skills.

It's hard to get length in your kicking if you don't have the timing. Timing is something you have or you don't. I was an accurate kick over 40 metres but my limit was about 50 for distance and only on a good day. That's because, even though I'm a biggish man, I didn't have the timing that allows someone like Houlihan or Wayne Johnston to stroke the footy so well or Ricky Ponting or Sachin to strike so sweetly. I also can't hit a golf ball as far as I should be able to. I think Fisher suffers from the lack of timing issue that I and others like me have.
he did kick a nice long goal once last year but IMO it was a fluke or he would be able to do it most of the time.
He is a great mark and handy 30 metres from goal but we will be developing Garlett/Yarran for that role, even though they are not his equal in the air.

Fisher needs to learn how to keep his feet. He continually falls over, which is unforgivable.
Unfortunatley for Fish he lacks body strength and is pushed around to easily. He should consider himself very lucky to have kept his spot on the list. I personally think he will spend his final year playing for the Bullants given he has way to many weaknesses in his game, lack of leg speed, lack of body strength, and the inability to keep his feet will not allow him to play AFL.
I hope I am proven wrong.

I reckon he will play some games next year, when Ratten gets desperate.

His inclusion will be a guage of how we are going at the time.

Played against Fish from under 8's to under 16's and his kicking style hasnt changed much.

Hope he has a ripper pre-season and can come out and magically kick 50 mtr goals.

If played correctly in the forward 50 hopefully can take a few big grabs like we all know he can with a quick dish off to a
Betts/Yaz/Robbo/Errol whizzing past to receive.

..he has very sticky fingers, but he's body is too light for him to play the deep fwd role now that fev's gone.. ..he'd get double teamed playing so deep, and the defence would enjoy running the ball out with ease.. ..he'd be more often a weakness than a strength..

I didn't realise he was still on our list.

Apart from the sun-tan & facial hair, I don't know what he works on during the off-seasons 'cos nothing seems to improve. His upper body seems to be the same now than what it was 5 years ago. His lower body strength is no better based on his ongoing habit of falling over when someone stronger out-bodies him in a one-on-one. And yeh, his kicking both in field & on-goal is sub-standard at best. Why he was signed to a contract through to 2010 is beyond me.

A few years back I thought 'wow wait till this kid puts on some muscle'.

But his body shape has not changed at all. I suppose some guys builds are like that eg Lappin, Simmo

But something like kicking and keeping your feet is something that you should be learning. He just falls all the time, even if he is not touched. I cant understand why.
