ever thought of writing a passion-filled article about how you really feel about the AFL?? Here's one i wrote for school the other week... End Of An Era The Shag When Carlton and Melbourne strap on their boots on Saturday, they will be playing not only the last game at Princes Park, but the last game at a suburban ground. Many celebrations and festivities are in order for what has served as one of the greatest suburban grounds, and a proud home to the Carlton Football Club. Exactly the way I feel about this issue. The AFL has killed suburban footy and replaced it with something more sterile. The vararies of the weather, the intimacy, the winter afternoon light across optus oval, the smell of linament, seeing the same folk each week in the same spot. Characters - like Barb, the home ground advantage. All these things and more are now dead because the AFL chose to kill suburban footy. |
