After a VERY disapointing end to our 2009 season, we have officially finshied 7th on the ladder.

Seeing how well we approved this year, and to have Waite, Warnock and Jamo back. I wont accept anything less than a top 4 finish next year.

I would also like to see heavy recruiting to bolster our backline.

What are your expecations for 2010 ?

VFL Premiers. Reading the posts tonight, we're clearly wasting our time in the AFL, so a full scale tilt at the VFL flag is paramount.

Don't care how many we win or lose. I want progress in:

1. Kick outs - an offensive plan and defensive structure

2. Team defence - Pressure the ball carrier, roll back and fill the holes, stream forward on turnover

3. Corridor footy - own the best real estate

4. An effective forward unit, with Fev as leader. Blocked leads, double backs, some variety for gods sake

5. Set plays - I want to kick the red time stoppage goals not concede them

6. No more long bashes down the boundary, but creative team movement.

7. Astute match committee selections. Not Greg Bentley.

Our match committee is under the pump next year. The boys have shown me they have the talent, and the character to keep working on it. But if they are not organised like Adelaide or St. Kilda, we're just making up the numbers.

You will not get any improvement in any of these areas under the current coaching staff...so where we end up next year depends almost entirely on who ends up in the coaches box over the summer...this is where need major improvement in order to have the means to effectively transfer tangible improvement onto the field...Picking up a player here or a player there at trade/draft time will not cut it.

If we went into next season with the same coaching panel we would finish outside the 8 IMO. However if effective changes are made we could finish in the 8 again and quite possibly higher up.

Barring major injuries, the goal has to be top 4 and preliminary final, anything less is not good enough.

We need to get Waite Warnock and Jamo up and running for a start

get Robbo and garlett into the Gym

turn yarren into an attacking HBF we dont need three forwards and garlett and betts should fill that role

we need to put some guys out to pasture -Wiggo Cloke Setanta and to a certain extent Scoland have seen better days

Need to send Bower off to the shrink and tell him Bradshaw will retire soon

Get Kruez out of the ruck and turn him into a Goodes

teach Austin both ends of the ground

spend most of the summer improving Armfield and Grigg disposal

find another in and under like Hadley so when they get injured we don't lose every clearance

teach jospeh to hurt the other way

teach Steven Murphy and Gibbs how to chase and tackle

provide protection to Judd

apart from that mature a little more and learn from the hurt of tonight and run run run as fast as you can

and with a little luck finish top 4

Hopefully Saints drop off like Hawthorn this year, Geelong too may drop off too considering their defenders are old. Surely we can better Dogs next year. Provided we fix up some key areas, I see top 4 as a target for next year.

Bring on the off season!

Positions on the ladder mean nothing unless you have worked out football.

We havent...

we finished the season, with 13 wins, losing 5 games (includng the final) by less than two goals.

or improvement next year, is to increase our performance by two goals.

for all the naysayers here, our performance is hardly terrible. we have played some fantastic footy at times, some okay footy and some prett average footy.

our improvement needs to come in the form of consitentcy. less of a gap between our best and our worst, and that will come with time, patience and experience.

another year older, another pre-season in the gym, get or full side back and we should be okay. next year the goal is to make the finals, and the at least the second week of it. finish top 4 would be nice, but not necessary. getting to the 2nd or third week is the goal for next year.

my starting 22 for next year.

betts - fevola - garlett
robbo - kreuzer - stevens
simpson - judd - walker
russel - waite - bower
jospeh - jamieson - thorton

warnock, gibbs, murphy

int hampson, grigg, yarren, hadley

emg scotland, houlihan, armfield, setanta, anderson, austin

and as we start to add more and more names to our emergency list we are starting to add real depth this year. hopefully pick up someone like Ebert/Salopek in the PSD, and concentrate on KP defender, thought i think Austin maybe able to do this role ... what i wouldnt give to have gotten Hurley last year!!

that is a side that is starting to take serious shape (and i wouldnt mind trying stevens in a HFF role)

I expect to see a more smarter and more honest MC selecting a more mentally hardened and committed 22 players in navy blue.

Get rid of the mediocre senior softies who will take us nowhere ...

Improvement in all our 18 -24 year old players. Improved consistency, fitness, mental fitness, familiarity with the game style, familiarity of opponents and general maturity. Most have shown they can play. Now its a matter of getting them to play their best each week.

Hopefully fev can play like he did against the Bears each week and contribute 60-70 goals. Waite up forward and jamo back to help defence.

With luck i see us finishing 3rd to 6th.

We have a good list. On our day we are fantastic but we need to be switched on each week and not let games slip like that Freo game. That is the one that has cost us.
