This morning on radio.

He was talking about the role of the ruckman in the modern game, and (to paraphrase a little) said:

"The new type of ruckmen coming through are looking good... Natanui, Kruezer, Hampson, Ryder."

Just found it interesting that he mentioned Hammer in the same bracket as the more 'acknowledged' young ruck guns. Obviously the Hammer is impressing even those who don't see the game through one (blue) eye.

I just see so much promise with Hammer - as a ruck or a forward.
Some of the glimpses he has shown are truly mouthwatering! :smoking:
It is just a matter of it all clicking AFAIC... and for some of those marks to start to stick!
He is 200+cm, one of the fastest at the club and a pure athlete. What there not to like?!

From all reports Port were pretty keen to get Hampson. We are lucky we have a good stock of young ruckmen on our list.

I reckon GC17 will have a real crack at him too.

2010 will be a big year for the Hammer.

yet only 5 years ago we had nothing in terms of ruck stocks.

Hammer is a beauty.... still raw, but as marciblue said, just wait until it all clicks.....OMG!

..the Hammer is actually a genuine talent, he's raw cos he's had so few afl games experience, with his earlier games spread apart.. ..coming from soccer background to afl late, and being that rucks traditionally take a bit longer to develope i reckon he's coming along beautifully.. ..the marks are sticking better than earlier, he's getting a feel for around the ground positioning and when to run and carry.... ..and his tapwork has improved, quite a few times late in the season he was palming the ball to advantage..

If Sammy and Warnock come on,. then you seriously consider trading Hammer to GC17 for a top 5 draft pick

Yeh let's put 5 years into him and then give him to another club.
Jacobs can not physically do what Hampson can do and the only thing Warnock can do at the moment is not string games together.

Glad to see we're setting the market for him.

What happens when GC offer up pick 12 for him?

There seems to be an assumption that GC are going to be handing out draft picks for anyone they can get their hands on.

They'll have a great list of young players and will want to add some experience to that, but they will have their choice and most times will be trading picks from a position of advantage.

If he is under contract with CFC then GC17s advantage is eroded

You don't sell jut for the sake of it - see the Fevola deal, we were not going to just chuck him out for rubbish

Hammer may be worth Pick 12, or he may be worth better than that

if he is under contract and worth a top 5 pick, then that is what you ask for, otherwise he stays at CFC

Then you sell Sammy to Port

If Hammer can continue his improvement as it has tracked so far and elevate himself to a permanent best 22 player - he will command pick 1 from GC, NO FLOWERING DOUBT!
And I would hope the club still don't trade him! Yep I know, the old potential being fulfilled problem. But, if it does ALL click for Shaun, he will be a monster in this game

I like to think we turned down pick six and/or pick nine for him.

I'm sure if you can get a look inside Hutchy's room you'll find plenty.

remember i had to work on the morning of the 06 draft, so i organised someone to text me who we took and i nearly fell off my chair when i thought that we had snared Gibbs and HANSEN.... but it turns out it was in fact some 'Hampson' character....

(and honestly i think we got the better end of the deal..)

Heard the same interview and had the exact same thought - warm and fuzzy. Hampson hasn't hada the hype yet but if he improves as much in 10 as he did in 09 James Hird will write articles on the Fab 2 ruck combo
