Thinking long term, assuming at least 2 of Hammer, 206, and Jacobs make the grade, should Kruz primarily play as a ruck or as a forward?

Forward with Hendo, Walker, Garlett, Yarran and Betts.

Waite will be forward this year, as will Henderson.

Kreuzer adds value at the tap and after the tap in midfield, I want him there until we've proven without a doubt Warnock & Hampson can take the load. Then we trade Thornton at the end of the season and send Waite to defence.

Really have to disagree with trading Thornton.

Primarily forward for mine.

As long as our other ruckmen stay fit.

Then a quality tall will be languishing in the reserves if we get Warnock up and running... who do you see as the most expendable in terms of value to team versus market value? The answer is always going to be Thornton.

Even as I see it now, Setanta will be on the fringe. The only reason why he looks like getting a gig at the moment is because some people are putting in a 4-tall defence or 3-tall forward line. Too top heavy. Then there's Austin to think about.

Need to look after the Kreuz. He's still a young body and I wouldn't like to see his body fail him at 25, ala Josh Fraser, because we have run him into the ground playing ruck from day dot.

Would like two of Warnock/Jacobs/Hammer head our ruck division, and Kreuz as our roaming forward.

Definitely play forward with some pinch hitting in the ruck.

Mainly a ruckman . He is already shaping up to be 1 of the best rucks in the AFL .
Will likely be no1 by 2011.

Jacobs and Hampson could also be pretty good . Warnock won't cut the mustard .

The odd session in the forward will always happen though . Just to stuff opposition match-ups , and give us some variation .

I am reasonably sure that Kreuzer has been quoted as saying that he wants to play as a ruckman. If he is forced to play as a forward and he is unhappy, it may not end well for anyone.

Also look @ it this way, would Dean Cox be wasted if used as a forward? IMO yes, he is too valuable around the ground. Ditto Kreuzer.

Well for one thing, the assumption is being made that all of Henderson, Warnock and Hampson will make the grade as consistently being in our 22.

Assuming that this is the case and they all excel (which to be honest i doubt), it definetely is a tough choice but i would have thought that Thornton has actually become one of our leaders, being the rock and general in the backline this year - and is also still relatively young. To be honest id prefer to avoid the situation altogether, by not having Waite playing as a defender. He can be in defence as loose man, running off half back (although personally id love to see him up forward), leaving Thornton, Bower and Jamison to take the talls/mediums. With Austin the extra depending on match ups.

This does make the team look very top heavy, but the athleticism of a few of our talls should make up for it.

However, this is what i would eventually like to see with our talls:

Forward

Henderson
Waite

Ruck

Kreuzer (pinch-hitting up forward ala Brad Ottens)
ONE of Warnock/Hampson/Jacobs

Defence

Thornton
Jamison
Bower
Austin (If need be)

Kreuz, Henderson and Waite to do the job of Ottens, Hawkins and Mooney respectively.

Trade one of the backups who isnt used as 2nd ruckman.

This way we have 2 tall, mobile marking forwards at all times + Kreuzer making it 3 at times.

He should play Center Half Full Forward with the small men around him.

All this talk of Henderson being our forward saviour..... He has kicked 3 goals in his Career! Either he is a defender or ....

or he's a 19 year old kid who's spent 2 years in Brisbane playing behind Brown and Bradshaw.

Yes he's spent time in defence because of this, but he is a forward and he's going to be a very good one at that.

Don't agree with point A. I don't see Kreuzer up and leaving because we play him as a forward.

Couldn't agree with point B anymore though. Not sure where the fascination comes with playing him as a forward. When you have a guy of that height who can run like he does and has that kind of ability below his knees why would you confine him to the forward line and not utilise his strength around the ground?

Someone mentioned him playing as a forward and pinch hitting in the ruck, I see it the other way around.

Spoiler
Brown only kicked 5 in his first 15 games Henderson has all the attributes of a great power forward. Reasonable Blues fans know It will take a couple seasons to get there, BUT HE WILL GET THERE, Kruezer forward too let them develop together. . . Bradshaw for a couple years will help the boys learn and develop.

Do you think he'll be as good as Karl Malone, or Tim Duncan?

He's shown that he can take great pack marks, and has a bit of dash at ground level. Play the big fella forward with Warnock, Big Sauce and Hammer fighting it out for the two senior ruck positions.
