Post subject:  my personal protest against Channel 9

I can't find the web link, and I'm not sure if it's been posted elsewhere, but on pg 12 of The Age's sports section today, Geoff McClure writes:

'Fair to say Channel Nine didn't win too many fans at Visy Park on Friday night when sports reporter Tony Jones hopped into Carlton for its handling of Fevola's alleged Brownlow night sexual misconduct involving a female newspaper reporter. Jones ended the item, the lead to its news service, by saying because it had not investigated the matter "Carlton looks to be the big loser in this, losing a Coleman medallist - and respect". That's a bit rich, coming from Nine, was the general view from Visy Park, given that the Blues have booted Fevola out of the club, while Nine still has him on its payroll despite being the same network that gave him The Footy Show microphone on Brownlow night.'

I've already posted in the thread about Sticks' media conference my thoughts regarding Jones' conduct on Friday. For what it's worth, please allow me to now share with you my simple personal protest against Tony Jones and the Channel 9 news service -

I will not watch the Channel 9 news again until Carlton wins its next premiership.

There. I said it.

A few friends of mine are going to do the same (one of whom isn't even a Carlton supporter!) and we don't care how long it takes (although I'm sure we all hope it's not too far away...except for maybe the non-Carlton supporter  ), but we've simply had enough of Channel 9 "news".

Losing one viewer, or a few viewers, will probably make no difference to Channel 9 and their sponsers, but I think it's the only way individuals can protest these things - by simply switching off.

Forget what Timothy Leary said - the answer is to Turn OFF!! :smoking:

We could write letters to Channel 9 saying how we believe Jones' "reporting" of the news on Friday was the most agenda-driven, two-faced, biased, conceited disgrace we've ever had the misfortune to view....but we'd be wasting our time.

I'm simply turning Channel 9 news off.

Or rather, I'm switching over to one of their competitors...

Thanks for letting me share that with you.

I'm with you Johnny Cash.

I don't watch Channel Nine but if I did I would stop watching it.

In protest I'm going to start illegally downloading episodes of Hey Hey It's Saturday and burning them for my friends. I, we and they won't watch them, but it's the principle of the thing that's important.

You're so clever!!

Read my post again and it might sink in that I don't expect it to make a difference to them......but it will make a difference to ME.

I don't watch nine news / ACA / Today Tonight / Sunday Night / etc etc etc cause it's all media prostitution. 'Bought & Sold' stories..........NOT reporting news at all.

The only news i watch is the SBS news, and then Ten's late night news for a Sandra Sully perve and then Sports Tonight.

Tony Jones is a very lucky man when you think about it......................

He's Fat, Ugly, has very little talent yet he gets paid quite well from Channel 9 for being a knob.
He's got it good!

So true. but I think Hutchy takes the gold medal for fat, ugly, talentless trolls getting good money (and in his case, anything above the old age pension would be over-paid).

Wasn't Jones the 'whispers in the sky' reporter  .

He was also outside the club 3 hours after the Norman/Angwin thing hanging shit on our club for not keeping the media informed as to what had happened and who did it.

Not like the Saints, he said, and the rape allegations - who did everything by the book and should be commended :banghead: .

Was only a matter of time before this caught up with Channel 9. Jones sped things up a bit.

Hopefully this gains a bit of groundswell and the story gets out of the sports pages and into the real news.

Ch 9? Is it still on air? Haven't watched it in years.

Nor do I pay attention to anything the following say

Caro
Sheehan
Newman
Barrett
Watson
Lyon
Fatpat
That nuffer from Adelaide
Quatermain
Hunt
Well pretty much anyone who is a 'personality' who proports to be a journo.

Ch 9 has foisted so many egomaniacal d-heads on us for so many years, I just don't watch that station anymore. Not out of any protest - I just hate most of their 'personalities'.

The odd thing about that Jones report & us losing respect was straight after was the report about their very own Red Faces skit bungle :?

They insult our intelligence by putting 20/1 on prime time TV.

I'm hearing that on the morning of the Brownlow that Tony Jones stated on radio that Ch 9 were hoping that Fev would get pissed because it makes for a funnier Brownlow Street Talk.

I have no doubt that Channel 9 encouraged Fev to get hammered (not that he needs much encouragement!) because it is better telly. Sam Newman and Shane Crawford used to always be drunk when they did Street Talk from the Brownlow (or the Brownlow after party).

Jones' report (the lead story of that station's 6pm news!!!) that Carlton has "lost respect" because it apparently didn't properly investigate allegations relating to Fev's conduct on Brownlow night was bordering on unethical IMO. Channel 9 had a clear conflict which they did not declare.

What did Channel 9 do in relation to the allegation? Did they investigate it? Fev was working for them that night after all. OK, he was pulled off that week's Footy Show, but they still ran some damning footage of him on the Footy Show to titillate the massess (= boost ratings)....and he remains on their books!

Is he still at Carlton? No.

Has Carlton lost respect from its actions since the Brownlow? No.

Has Fev, Channel 9 and Tony Jones lost respect? Yes.

Did Tony Jones have much respect before? Probably not
