Jezza left vs Fev leaving

Both in extraordinary circumstances.............

I still hold Jezza in the highest esteem.

Will I do the same for Fev in years to come?

Can you outline the facts please? I don't know why Jezza left, it was before my time.

Jezza had just been captain / coach of the Premiership team and backed George Harris ( President) in a stoush at Festival Hall. If you remember the JE vs anyone stoushes.... same stuff.

Harris was overthrown and Jezza had to leave.
Went to the Saints and played then Coached them.

Always a Blue though!

Jezza - premiership captain-coach, AFL legend. Left due to misplaced and misguided loyalty.

Fev - wonderful playing talent, childish, disrespectful, disgraceful. He continually shat on Carlton. Left due to misplaced brain (in his pants) and misguided moral compass.

Fev will be remembered in the tradition of Phil Carman as a flawed and unfulfilled talent and a more successful version of Mark Jackson, Warwick Capper and Lawrence Angwin.

I'll remember the entertainment Fev provided, I loved it as much as the next, but I've been waiting for this trade for a long time.

This thread says one year v the other.

1979, was my fave footy year in my life.
My childhood hero was the captain coach, we lost a mere 3
games all year and frig did i enjoy the second half of the grand final.
That was my Nirvana moment in footy, but no i didnt want to shoot myself !

However, just a mere 6 months later i did feel like that when my hero was
running around in a Stkilda jumper.

Theres a lesson in all that for all that have weighed into this entire Fev snafu.

2009, started out pretty damn good too.
Hell we finally got some respect back and played in the finals.
Then Juddy didnt win the Brownlow, and it all went downhill (sic) from there that night.

Like many others, my fave Carlton player (even if a goose/dill/drunk/larrikin/basket case)
or any other suitable arguable term you would like to use may be apt, is now gone again too.

But as i said earlier, a lot can change in 6 months, 6 days or even 6 blinks of the eye.
So im keeping the faith, and bristling how good the Blues are gunna be next year and even
better the year after that too.

As an aside, probaly the most dominant full forward in the history of the game since
day one never played in a premiership side either you know, as in Plugger.
He got a Brownlow and a Pig, but not what all AFL players crave, a medallion with your
BEST and CLOSEST MATES. Fev........ how would you respond to that last sentence ?

Jezza leaving in 1979 would be my first Carlton memory I reckon. I was only 7, but I can still remember seeing the newspaper headline outside the Shepherdson Road deli in Mount Gambier!

I remember as a 9 year old asking Wayne Harmes at a footy clinic in the next pre season why Jezza left.
He replied "because he is a puppet". Had no idea what he meant but it made me sad.

I wonder which 9 year old will be told at a footy clinic next year in response to his question around why Fev left "because he is a muppet"...

By you maybe. I'll remember him as a shining light during the best decade of our proud history. He left for the political reasons stated. Sometimes you back the wrong horse. Had Harris got up, Jezza would have stayed. Players/coaches shouldn't get involved in club ploitics IMO.
