Post subject: | B&F Report: Fev - An Overwhelming Favorite |
I was at the B&F last night and all I can say is that despite the discussions over the last week re: Fev, he is without a doubt THE most loved and popular character at the club. Every time he was shown on screen or his name was mentioned the crowd in attendance all went crazy for the Fev. Whatever may or may not have happened over the last week has done nothing to harm his popularity amongst the majority of the fans. A few interesting things I found during the night were: Sticks during his Presidents speech did bring up the Fev topic. It was all fairly scripted and standard stuff but the roar in the auditorium was deafening. You could hardly hear what he was saying but I have no doubt the message the fans were sending was loud and clear. Whilst nothing was directly said, Sticks did mention that they would be resolving the situation over the next few days. And the one thing I found most interesting was that during his speech re: Fev, you could not wipe the grin/smile off the Prez's face. The fans were cheering so loud for the Fev and my opinion is that he is going nowhere. They all acknowledge he is a huge talent and the fans overwhelming favorite and therefore I would suggest he'll survive. Ratts delivered a 'Ross Lyon' style speech when analysing the 2009 year and warned the players that at Carlton we do things the 'Carlton Way'. And if anyone didnt want to do things the Carlton Way then that was fine - They wouldnt be part of Carlton. Stirring stuff by the coach - I was very impressed with his delivery. Also interesting to note was that whilst the media reported that the board were meeting yesterday re: Fev, it was intimated by Sticks that the meeting yesterday was to discuss Greg Swann and him being re-signed for a further 2 years! Another case of the media getting it wrong again!! And on a side note - Best Clubman went to David Ellard. It was mentioned that it was the first time in the clubs history that a rookie listed player who never played a senior game has won the award. They heaped praise on him which would suggest that he is going nowhere and i wouldnt be surprised if a promotion were in order. All in all a good night had by all. Players were all very approachable and it was great to see both Murph and Gibbs round out the top 3 behind Judd. Kruezer finishing 5th was a sensational result also.... |

Thanks Kots - good stuff! ![]() And I think Ellard played a game in Perth last year? |

Some nice points kots...but I would disagree on a couple of them. Not ALL the crowd cheered for Fev, I would estimate 50%. And I thought Sticks looked and sounded quite stern while delivering the speech. That's not to say that Fev is not obviuosly a crowd favourite, but it wasn't completely unanimous. |

Thanks for that, kots. Good to get reports for those of us who couldn't make it. I wonder, exactly, what "the carlton way" is? Did Ratten elaborate on that? |

No mention of what exactly the 'Carlton Way' is but it looked like the coach and club were trying to get a point across to the players. It's our way - or the highway! Either way it was good to see th coach/club make a stance and publicly state that. As for Fev - time will tell. But my inclination is that the vast majority of those in attendance were in favor of him staying. And whilst Sticks did seem quite stern - the grin on his face when discussing Fev spoke volumes for me! He stuffed up and he needs to be reprimanded. But he is the most loved bloke at the club and trading away a matchwinner would be risky stuff indeed!! |

judd2fev wrote: Just out of curiousity did any of the players have a black eye?????? Not that I saw. Heard that one too. Agree with Mrs Caz. Maybe half were cheering for Fev. Presumably the half that are still living in the 80's, where people didn't care what was going on, as long as we won the flag... Fairly somber night, compared to last year. Dry event for the players from what I could see. They were definitely more subdued than the last couple of years. |

Not too worried if their the moral pillars of society or not. Not our problem. If it is, then people can go support a church team. Eagles won a flag with the worst off-field culture ever. Bet none of their supporters cared that half their blokes were on smack, or that one even flat-lined. Irrespective of what happened since they got their flag and got it because they worked hard and professionally where it counted....on the tracking track and the on the field. Winners can laugh losers can please themselves. |

Problem with your logic jim re the Eagles is that not too many people would have known about the Eagles culture for it to have mattered. |

Possibly not to the club and some supporters but a lot of members would have been clueless. |
