personally i dont think stevens should have ever been included in the initial touted 'fab 4'

Kruzer will be the 5th as he's not a pure mid so to speak.

mclean will complement the other three perfectly.

release judd!

I dont think we really need a fab 4, would much rather have a tremendous ten that are able to rotate through the midfield.

first we got judd
then we got warnock
now we get mclean

kudos to the recruitment staff, that is three very handy players to recruit from other clubs, if we could somehow get everitt ... i would say that is probably the best influx of players from other clubs any club has managed, in a 3 year period.

top that off with our fleet of quality draft picks coming through ...

its starting to happen :)

I don't think we need a fab 'four' as much as a awesome midfield....

(whoever said 4 was the magic number?)

Was just watching the WC v SYD grand final they're replaying on ONE and boy that was a midfield I think McLean can be a bit of a rowan jones or chad fletcher (expect better) for our boys and dish it out, tackle and block for them etc.

Yes i know we got one of those Eagles midfielders but I think Judd Murph and Gibbs can be even better than that group I reckon Murph and Gibbs still have a LOT of development left in them

I couldn't believe some of the rubbish i heard on radio today. The boys from 3AW think that Melbourne are the winners out of the trade. The boys from League teams on foxtel seem to think the same. The Ox and Robbo said Melbourne supporters would be delighted with pick 11 for Mclean. Brian Taylor was the only who rated Brock saying he is a good midfielder to which Shaw and Parkin replied he is average, lacks leg speed and turns the ball over.

From what i understand pick 11 in this years draft is basically pick 21 as GC17 have hand picked the best 17 year olds out of this years draft pool. Im pretty sure it was Ricky Nixon who said a pick within the first 5 is worth holding onto, anything out side of that is a lucky pick.

Im more than happy to part with pick 11 for a tough hard nut like Mclean. Having Mclean in the middle could possibly allow Gibbs to play 'play maker' setting up play through half back and the middle, Juddy can play a more outside role and Murph continuing as a rover........ for me, thats worth pick 11

I don't know about a fab-4 (seppo bullshit really from Hird to get us to lose to the scum), but Brock definitely fills a gaping hole in our midfield, especially if Hadley is done at Carlton.

Yes, Brock has the potential to be an A+ footballer.

He is in the top 5 of his draft year - 2003.

Cooney is number 1 and then it's hard to split...

McLean,
Heath Shaw
Brent Stanton
Jed Adcock

with Sylvia and Daniel Jackson coming on strong

Walker could probably be in the top 5 but injuries have made it hard to assess him on form alone.

As fopr our Fab 4, it will hopefully be a Fab 5.

Simmo is so close to become an A+ footballer. If he can lift his output 5-10% he will get there. He has played an incredibly consistent high level of football for the last 3 years. He could very well take that next step.

Brock is to be the other inside player we need. When Hadley was injured we really missed his get the hands on the ball attitude.

Probably not fast enough / skilled enough to be an outside player. It is very rare for players to be able to do both effectively like Judd.

I'm not sure he is Fab Four material, but he is very, very handy as he is exactly what we need and should be a fine player for us.

But not fab Four.

The 4th Fab Four spot is reserved for Chris Yarran

Some of the great midfields of recent times

Carlton 2000:
Kouta, Campo, Ratten, Bradley
+ Matty Allan coming off All-Australian honours

Brisbane 2001-2004:
Voss, Akermanis, Lappin, Black, Power

West Coast 2005-2006:
Judd, Kerr, Cousins, Embley
+ Cox, the best ruckman of the modern era

Geelong 2007+
Ablett, Bartel, Ling, Corey, Selwood

St Kilda 2009:
Hayes, Dal Santo, Goddard, Montagna

These groups are 'fab fours'. We're on the way to reaching that level, but not there yet.

I think you may have forgotten one Donstuie...

Carlton - 1995
Williams, Bradley, Ratten (Carlton B & F '95), Kouta (All Aust '95)
+ Justin Madden

Warnock/ Hammer/ Kreuzer

tap the ball to

Judd
Gibbs
Murphy
Walker
Simpson

McLean
Joseph
Hadley
Carrazzo

Now, pick your Fab 4 from the above. If we can't get a Fab 4 out of that then you're not looking at them in their prime as you have with all the other Fab 4's.

I think Bettsy does really well whenever he plays midfield.
Carrots is a hard body who accumulates.

Our midfield group will continue to grow, develop and surprise. I'm not concerned about Fab 4's, I like to judge the package of the midfield group. You're only as good as your weakest link. There's no weakies in the list above.
