Gerald Healy 'Whispers' has told him that Nick Stevens will announce his retirement next week due to the neck injury. the GH went on to say the blues have an eye on Brock Mclean.

Freaky. I just came on to discuss the possibility of Stevens retiring this year.

I see alot of merit in Stevens retiring for his own health foremost. He also is selling his house as his business is expanding so I'd assume he would want to be more involved in that.

From a Carlton perspective, we open up a spot for a young midfielder to come through (?) and plenty of salary cap space to have a crack at am above average player.

Raf he sold the house last week for a decent sum (a very very nice place).

Gerald actually said that we had put an offer on the table (not sure if it was to Brock or MFC)

I think this would be a good move for all concerned.

Our second tier midfielders arent good enough, and Stevens is one of those. If Judd Murph and Gibbs are our lead mids then our next tier need to be either defensive (to compensate) or hard running. Stevens isnt a patch on those three in 2009 form so I ask what team can afford 4 midfielders of that "Nature".

It also helps with salary and helps with Stevens injury.

It will be intersting to see if it comes through and whetehr STevens was playing with duress.

I'd like to thank him for his 6 years of service and 100 games for the CFC.

SEN running with Stevens has been told today he is no longer required. They've put a call into the club.

I said this 12 months ago. Shouldnt have played this year but the coin was to good. Neck injury is degenerative and has taken its toll. Sticking point has been and still is money. Contracted to next year and there is arguing over payment. As soon as agreement reached expect announcement.

I remember Swann a while ago saying that we had a fair bit of room left in this years TPP.

Couldn't we just give Stevo a big bonus on this years contract to settle it?

If it's true, thanks for the service through a hard time, Nick, and good luck in the future.
