Now l may have my head bitten off but have a open mind for a second :P

Now l can't see Fev at the club in 3 years time, he wants a crack in the NFL. I could be wrong. But, l think our best chance of winning the premiership is in the next 2 -3 years. Beyond that it may be hard to get good draft picks.

The way l see it, we are only 1 key backman away from a premiership and one or two forwards away from the premiership.

Now l was thinking that if we could snare a couple decent forwards and backman near the end of their career for not much, then we would go very close to a premiership. Clubs offload players just because they are 28-30 with a couple good years left in them, which you have shane crawfords, alastair lynches, rob harveys, craig bradleys all producing good footy in their 30s

I know i will get abused for this, but this is an example!!. If we could pick up a Tarrant for basically nothing, he can play on tall forwards fairly well and still has a good year or two left in him. This would mean Waite can play CHF and means we finally have a spine in the team with no gaps.

We could also pick up russell robertson for basically nothing, and he would be pretty handy as a small forward. I saw him the last two games of the season and he looks good.

Just those two additions would mean Kruzer/Warnock would be the only rucks. No Cloke or Hampson in. (Plus)
Waite could play CHF, meaning it would be hard to double FEV (PLUS)
Robbo is pretty quick, good mark and kick and can play the porplyzia role and take pressue of FEV (Plus)
A Tarrant would provide a extra tall in the backline in a key position, which when we have injuries we wont have no other options like Brisbane exposed. (Plus)
Blues forward line has options, not predictable (Plus)

I could handle a Forwardline like this: Fev, Waite, Robbo, Yarran, Betts, with Kruze drifting in there.
And a Backline with: Jamo, Bower, Tbird, armfield etc, with Tarrant playing more as an emergency, depending on matchups.

We can keep getting draft picks and waiting 4-5 years for them to develop, or we can patch up a couple spots with the intention of winning a premiership in the next two-three years.

What you think?

Good post but I disagree. I reckon we are an organised midfield structure away from a flag plus two other things...1) an organised fwd structure and an organised kick in structure.

In other words we are basically only ONE thing away...at that's being organised. Sounds easy but if the right people are not brought in over the summer to assist the coach then we are many more years away...I'm sure the club knows this and will make the necessary changes at the coaching level...I hope.

We could be all dead before we win our next flag
18 teams soon won't belong before it is 20

it is only going to get harder

I agee. There are too many teams in the comp, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20...when will it end?

Part of me is envious of clubs such as Hawthorn - who find a way to win premierships each decade. It will be 1 in 20 chance of winning it soon. and then they will introduce the gunnedah galahs and it will be 21 teams and then the walgett wackers and it will be 22 teams.

We have to win it within the next three otherwise we are cactus with all these new teams coming in... and to be honest after watching the game on the weekend i don't like our chances within the next 3 years anyway.

I agree Grrof, I'm going to start following Freo......... :donk: :donk:

But really I agree with the organisation being our biggest issue to overcome - draft all of Neil Craigs assistants

Hang on - envious of clubs who win a flag each decade ........ they should be all jeolous of Carlton .. 40's (50's was a miss), 60's, 70's, 80's, 90s .... thats close to every decade - we have had one bad era - unfortunately its been close in our memories

I agree.

We have a window of opportunity available to us over the next 3-5 years.

I think we should peak in around 2011 - 2012.

Does that mean "We're coming?"
