I know people on TC all have their opinions about Ratts and his assistants, but what about Wayne Hughes????

While I don't think he has failed us badly, do you think he gets a pass?
Or is it time for him to move on??

I have been generally so-so about his performance.

Yes he has had success with rookie picks like Garlett and AJ,

But the Pfeiffer experiment went nowhere, not to mention Bentley.

I concede that the Johnson decision was out of his hands, but I am starting to feel like players such as Browne, Armfield, Russell, Grigg, Anderson were wasted in comparison to what other clubs have picked up.
Austin scrapes by because of his height, and Edwards and Hartlett are his two exceptions which we can excuse.

But looking at the squad as a whole it has a little bit of mediocrity swirling around it. I don't want to reopen the Bottom 6 debate again,

But surely our recruitment team needs to be under the microscope now that we can't rely on #1 draft picks anymore????????

I notice you didn't post this at the 15 minute mark of the last quarter. :garthp:

I am talking about the whole season and recent years, not just tonight's game - out of tonights players I only mentioned a few as questionable.

I don't think its an overraction to question his position when the season is over

While I don't agree with the OP, you have to admit his record in both the time taken to choose small/medium defenders and the choices themselves have been average to say the least.

I also disagree that Bentley was his decision.

The fact the he recommended Yarran ahead of Rich/Ziebell is reason enough for him to be sacked!!!

This is not an attack on Yarran, after all he did not ask to be selected at 6 or by Carlton, however we would be still in the running in 2009 if we had selected Rich.

I'm sick and tired hearing about UPSIDE, I've seen enough how much more of an upside do you want. Rich is a gun and we got it wrong.

I'm also sick and tired of people telling me we don't need ay more midfielders, after Judd, Murph, Simpson and Gibbs the rest are just ok.

We have pick 11 no obvious picks like Murph, Kruze or Gibbs - Pick a bloody footballer over upside! A natural footballer that can find his own football and has good skill.

We've done as well as most. Every side has their hits and misses. We've done pretty well most times.

But....if we had picked Rich instead of Yarran I'm sure we'd be playing next week. The kid doesn't have to touch it much at all to be very effective.

Anyway, from the important longer term view, I'll wait a few years on that one.

I don't mind Hughes. Some good gets over the last 4 years and our development isn't the best, which isn't his fault. Just 2 things:

1. How did he rate Mitch Robinson top 10? Mitch is good, but not that good......Concerning

2. There are still mitigating factors in the Rich/Yarran debate and it's still very very early........but...........it's really not looking great for us at the moment. (I know, I know, it's early etc. etc.................but still.............)

Mindless speculation.

Just a YES or NO will do Jimmae

Would Rich have been a better selection?

My point is that we need to understand that we got it wrong, simple.

Also didn't Hughes rate several others before Rich? if so he got it terribly wrong.

Would Rich have chased like the rest of our midfielders who can play and kick?

Judd, Murphy and Gibbs played poorly tonight, yet you would have us believe that a first year player would made all the difference and got us home.

There really are some impatient and clueless people out there.

Just Hurley and Naitanui.

Terrible rankings.

Another mid-paced guy with good kicking skills would not have been helpful tonight. A tall/tallish swingman or a guy with game-breaking turn of speed would have.

So, the answer is an emphatic no.

IMO WH recruitment especially the last couple years has been good, tho I would liked us to pick tall forward last year. Not even the best of best get it 100 % right, there will always be a few hits and misses.

As for Yarran vs. Rich, give it 3 or 4 years before you compare, not every kid is a Judd out of the box.

Our player development however needs to improve further, Darren Harris is a good inclusion but needs more quality support.

Mate, thats just bollocks. If Fev kicked that goal against the Hawks , if we beat Essendon*, if my Aunty had .....

A very inexperienced and young team choked and got over-run. The Coaches box wasn't exactly chockful of latter day finals experience either. A very bitter learning experience for the club tonight.

This Rich stuff is doing my head in. When is it going to stop? :donk: :donk:

It's more about what Rich did rather than what our midfielders did.

Didn't Rich kick their last second goal, how many goal assist did he get?

You still don't think he had an impact?

Have you noticed his skills, have you noticed his strength around that pack, have you noticed he can get his own football?

My point is we got it wrong and if Hughes rated several others before Rich his ability to rate players needs to be questioned.

Well lets see how 2008 compares to 2009 after the H&A season

11th to 7th
7 wins to 13 wins
1830 pts for to 2270
2014 pts against to 2055
90.86% to 110.46%

Someone must be doing something right along the way.

Rich has been the difference between Brisbane being shit last year and good this year. Plain and simple.

Would he have made us top 4 this year? Possibly. The top 4 is pretty good but to be honest he would have scored us one or two extra wins this year. (think, 14 or 15...would he have made us win 18 game this year? I don't think so).
