Setanta kicked 5 in the reserves today. He presented well all day, his second efforts were fantastic, he used his body superbly and most of all, he showed some really good signs...as did many of the Carlton listed players. Any chance he could press for senior selection?

Did Fish play in the VFL this week? If so, we have no one on the LTI list, so I Setanta can't play seniors.

If Fish did play, anyone want to say how he went?

Fish: i think he did pretty well. He kicked a goal or two and created a threatening target. I wouldn't be selecting him for the seniors next week but for his first game back after nearly a year off he was very very good.

Phil Cleary said some nice things about him but wouldnt go so far as to say he will make it. I think he will...his attack on the footy and work ethic is terrific. His marking is also strong and while his kicking aint pretty he is improving. I would have him in the senior team as I think he will learn more and learn it faster...

A couple of other players who impressed me..

Russell..didnt do much but everything he did was smooth and with some style. He is a polished player but needs building up so he presents at more contests and gets involved more.

Blackwell...has good footy nous and has good vision... a lighter version of Sam Mitchell..lacks leg speed and got caught a couple of times but has that bit of real footballer about him that I like.

Jessie Smith...knows how to find the footy but his disposal isnt flash by foot...he reminds me of Hopper McCormick..good scrapper but lacks polish. One good thing about him is that he seems to be able to hold his own in body on body contests and he keeps on keeping on....if he can polish the skills he might be a chance...

Chris Bryan...been pushing up for him but thought his first half was woeful...let Cameron Cloke jump all over him and give him the slip around the ground. Looked like he couldnt be bothered...second half was a major improvement....more spring in his step and more involved in the play. The man has some talent..he has a huge kick on him and its been a while since I have seen someone who can hit the middle of the ground from the FB position. He backed into some packs, took some marks and even got involved in scrapping for the ball when it hit the deck.
Its all about attitude with Bryan IMHO...skill level isnt the problem...he lacks a bit of mobility at times but I wonder if its lack of effort rather than mobility. I'm not saying he will make it but it wont be lack of talent that lest him down...

Justin Davies...was everywhere and was BOG...did it easy really....he still left me with doubts though. Its like he is too good for VFL but not good enough for AFL. I dont know what to make of him...

Troy Longmuir...average first half but had a purple patch in the third and di some good work in the middle during the last quarter....I still dont think he is good enough for senior footy.

Nick Becker...caught my eye with his leftfoot style...need to see more but may be a capable player in the making..

i thought that once Carlos had been elevated he was eligable for senior selection at anytime...

Nah there has to be someone on the LTI list for a rookie to get promoted. Remember what happened to Damien Peverill when he was staring and then was forced to return to the rookie list when James Hird came back?

Because he is a rookie and is elevated only while we have a player on the LTI list there are limits to his availability for selection. Given that he was elevated for Brad Fisher and the Fish played today I'd assume that Santy is no longer available for a senior berth as by definition Fisher must now be off the LTI list.

is hartlett on the LTI?

if so, then setanta can stay on the senior list for a couple more weeks.

How long is it till Hartlett comes back anyway? He was a chance to play this year but this injury has to be stalling his progress.

Loved Setantas game today.
Confidence was mixed but improving.
Russell is miles away.. he isnt a natural at finding the ball.
Chambers will be strictly a Telstra Dome player.
that game showed why Bryan doesnt get a game... (Good kick tho)
Smith stands up in tackles and is a tough bastard.. we need him to be a player.
Blackwell.. Smart smart smart!!!...lacks pace but has the rest to make it.
Longmuire.. you can see signs of him being valuable.
Sporn cant stand up to the rigours of footy...
Davies played a super game... Fevolaaaaaa.. dunno what you were watching.
Bannister.. no condidence.
Becker is hard but only has a right foot.
Scotland will come good.
Norman played his usual low intensity game till he was injured. He is just jogging too much for my liking. Needs to grit the teeth.

I reckon we will see Setanta in the side next year.

Is this something we should be concerned about?

Synbad's right, he isn't ready yet. That said I don't think we should be too worried about it, he has great skills (ignoring the kickout that went straight to the opposition) and as he gradually learns to read the game he'll get better and better. He just hasn't got a natural football brain that's all.

camelboy thats just my assesment.
I dont see Russell on the little ive watched him as a ball finder.
I only watched today on telly.. and wasnt there but he seems to run to where the ball aint.
In my opinion he and Chambers are similar like that and just arent using their pace.
there is no way youd think either are fast.

they have to get to working hard... running harder...and presenting more..
They can start by doing a Campo and running past players and into space when we have the ball and just getting a touch and a feel of the ball...
The more they touch it the more confidence they will gain.

It worries me that they dont bounce the ball... especially when thats the reason why we chased them.
Russell and Chambers should be urged to bounce the ball at every opportunity.

In fact noone is really bouncing the ball.....
I loved what Deledio and Tambling did in the Tigers game against us...
We have blokes just as fast and theyre not doing it.
I know Denis had earmarked players to do so at every opportunity in the pre season. they did in the Wizzer.. what the @#$%&! has happened to this mindset???

We have a bunch of static.. receivers .

somethings going on in their heads.

It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow.. one of two things can happen.. the interstate team infront of 40k barbarians will either steel them to improve.. or they will fall right away...

Nope.. we just finished too high to get the ones that were guaranteed to be the guns.pick 9 is not Tambling AND Deledio as well as the best uncontracted player people...

Its not Roughead AND Franklin either..

Or Ball.. Judd.. Hodge..
Its just pick 9... will be a good player but wont be the player you can build a side around.... a team cornerstone player...

Even Geelongs best players didnt come from the draft.. theyre father sons.
