Ok.

I have a little problem (I've tried the nasal spray it doesn't work...)

Seriously though,

It's my other halfs birthday - not a birthday ending with a zero or anything like that...

I am working friday night so in the back of my mind I was hoping we get down by
Adelaide so I could at least watch the game, rather than it being in Melbourne and
missing it anyway.

Adelaide win. I can watch the game because now it's on Saturday night.

Wrong.

My missus, who already knew I was stoked to be able to watch the game now -
'forgot' this and instead organised a little birthday dinner with some friends for Saturday
night.

Great.

It get iffy here because they have been shitcanning one of the girls partners because
he is playing a final on Saturday and he wants to either 'celebrate or commiserate' after
the game so he won't be coming.

Here I am, the partner of the birthday girl and I want to watch a game of football... :|

I won't lose my balls in the long term. Although a Carlton supporter (i use the term loosely),
she is no longer a real fan of AFL in general so she can't relate really, but she understands
what it means to me.

On the other hand I'd feel ultra guilty if I skipped the birthday to watch the game.

No, I'm not that much of a prick to do it if she said she wanted me there, but she is sitting
on the fence so it makes it more complicated.

Thoughts?! :?:

(p.s - we are having a family dinner tonight!! does that help??)

(p.p.s - it was my birthday yesterday - can't this be like, a birthday present or something?!)

Just remember the saying: "Happy wife, happy life".

ORRRRR, you could do what I've done in the past and let her watch So You Think You Can Dance, then try having a conversation with her. Can almost guarantee she won't hear a word you say, then crack the shits.......shoe.....other foot.....you know.

This is ridiculous!
8 years!!!
Simply ask her to change the outing to a lunch..or do it Friday nite.
Why not make it a good situation for everyone.
it's not that hard.
Go blues!!

Only dilemma you have is finding a lawyer who can organize a reasonable settlement for you.

This will hurt, Sparkles, but I think you're going to have to do the dinner.

HOWEVER.....given that you're giving up seeing the mighty Blues playing their first final since 2001, I think it would be fair for you to be constantly receiving text updates from friends who are watching the match. She can't complain about that, IMO, it's a fair compromise.

I'm in a similar position.....we're going out Sat night with friends. I'll be needing SMS updates. Either that or I'm going to spend plenty of time on MrsKK's iPhone checking scores.

You guys are soft.

My F-I-L was taking us out to dinner on Saturday Night – he is now taking us out for dinner on Friday Night – despite him being a rabid Bombers fan.

Tough one Sparky.

It has been 8 years though.

You could arrange for the men not to go out on Saturday night so that it becomes a girl's night out instead!

Don't forget to give her a really great present if you decide to bail out on her. :gift:

Tough one Sparky. :yikes:

The solution is simple. Go to the dinner, take a radio and ALWAYS keep at least one of the headphone in your ear. Take a mobile phone with net coverage and CONSTANTLY refresh it.

Every time we score a goal jump up excitedly, every time they score a goal swear profusely. In general, make an absolute arse of yourself.

Then, the next time your girlie tries to put you in your place when it comes to footy she will think twice.

In fact, that reminds me of a joke that is related to the topic at hand...

It was the World Cup final at Germany 2006. There’s a guy, buy himself, with three empty seats next to him. Two guys arrive and take up two of the seats, leaving just the one spare seat. It is the only empty seat in the entire stadium.

The blokes that have just arrived smile at the single guy and make a light hearted comment, “Wow, how could somebody miss the World Cup final?”

The guy responds, “That is my wife’s seat. We have attended every Italian national game together since Italia 90 and every World Cup final since. We both love football, and especially like to watch our country play.”

“Gee, that’s dedicated” says one of the guys.

“Yeah, she was really looking forward to the World Cup this year, but sadly she died recently.”

“I’m sorry to hear that.” the guy responds, “But, this is a World Cup final, surely you have family or friends that could have made it to the game and used her seat!”

The single guy replies, “That’s what I thought too, but they all wanted to go to the funeral instead.”

Yeah, but offending one's F-I-L is a life goal, offending one's wife is a life sentence.

You see, this is why I am single and happily so.

And also given the fact that I never show up to 'family' thingies anyways helps.

Plus those close to me know. Never, ever organise things for when Carlton is playing. Period.

Buy her something......give her a big appreciation dinner just the two of you prior to Saturday.

If she's a good woman she'll understand how much this means to you.

Allthough it's really up to you....

Is watching Carlton play their first final in 8 years.....something you've waited for....a light at the end of the tunnel after 8 years of shit.....is this worth perhaps upsetting your missus a bit and her bringing it up time and time again for the next 10 years?

I know what my answer would be....

Carlton all the way baby!!!

Pffft, there's only ONE decision you have to make. She'll get over it.

This isn't even a question.

Watch the game.

She'll understand.

If she doesn't, you have to ask yourself "do I really want to be in a relationship with someone who doesn't understand how important this is to me?"
