Loss's like the one on the weekend are unacceptable. Then can be no excuse for losing any game from five goals up in the last quarter. A loss like that has to burn deep in the gut, it has to hurt. There can be no other way.

Every player, every support person must take a loss like that and use it as motivation to lift to entirely new level of performance.

They must look deep into themsleves and make a solemn promise. "I will not allow that to happen again. Ever!" They must be brutally honest, they must examine thier own deficencies, they must devote every energy in addressing those deficencies. To make themsleves even better. The best.

Every meal, every session, every thought must be devoted to one thing. Being the best they possibly can be in every aspect of thier lives. Every action must be dedicated to this and only this. Anything else is simply unacceptable. There is no shortcut, no easy way to success. Pain, sacrifice, honesty and sheer hard work is the only way.

This is a fundalmental truth.

To succed you must accept this, to do otherwise will only lead to failure, dissappointment, defeat.

The way, the path to success is steep, fraught with danger and distraction, it is hard, few are capable of making the summit. Many sit on the side of the path and think they have done enough, they have deluded themsleves. They are fools.

Make sure you are the one who reaches the summit. Nothing else matters.

Let it burn, let it burn deep

If Saturday's result has burnt the players and coaching staff as much as it has burnt me then I have no fear for the future.

If it hasn't then we are in trouble.

We're all hurting, and it burns like buggery!

It's gonna be a long off season for us all.

Did we deserve to finish higher than Brisbane? Maybe.

Or maybe we deserved to finish where we did!

It's just unfortunate that we "had it in the bag" but just didn't know how to finish them off.

Our time will come...

I agree mark, if this hurts and forces a new level of commitment then fine. if they just shrug it off it will happen again.

Remembering the hurt and using it as a spur is not a problem now. The key will be getting that feeling back after R22 next year before embarking on another finals campaign.

(Assuming we make it!) :yikes:

exactly right....all that should've been said after this game was...
The way you are feeling right now, accept it but ensure you never forget it. Bottle it!
Because we pledge right now that we never EVER feel this way again. EVER
And it will only happen if all 22 of you pledge this, not one or two.

Pretty sure there are creams for that.

Finishing in the 8 isn't much really, it's how you finish in the top 4 that counts.

We finished where we should have finished, let's not kid ourselves. We haven't got it all together to have that killer instinct yet. We will be better for it next year and in 2011, absolutely no doubt about it !

Essendon* on the other hand will go backwards next year with the way they went out. :smoking:
