I was at the "Battle Of Britain" game and to suggest that Clarkson was anything but a gutless wonder would be an understatement.

Having attended 4 of the exhibition matches they were generally regarded as a time for a bit of showmanship and largely playful push and shove for the crowd.After the thing was over all the boys were back into what they were really there for, that being an end of year party.

Clarkson took it to another level completely with such a cowardly and wicked act.

Only us Blues remember him for the little r-sole he is, this timely reminder to others is great. My only regret is the little prick is a premiership coach .

Mind you, the scummers have stepped through this like pure virgins - Lloyd AND Knights should be given a pasting for their dirty tactics rather than hailed as heros.

Aitken makes some astute judgements and is it any wonder that Hawthorn play 'unsociable' football.

Hawthorn are on the brink, if they aren't already, of adopting the stench of a "dirty" football club. The admiration of 2008 is quickly evaporating with football fans.

Excellent article and very well spoken by Ian Aitken. Aitken won the equivalent of the Rising Star award in 1987 and was a good player in the premiership. Clarkson's cowardly king hit from behind that smashed his teeth and jaw and knocked him rotten was in an end of season exhibition game and was totally unprovoked.

To put it in to a contemporary context imagine if the Hawks had played an end of season exhibition after last years GF ag another side (not the grandfinallist), and some nobody ran up behind Rioli and king hit him then ran away, and imagine if Riloi went on to play another 30 average games after his stellar first season and retired at 26. That's the Ian Aitken story.

As Aitken points out Clarkson 22 yeasr later hasn't changed at all he still indulges his foul temper to intimidate and bully people when things don't go his way. Clarkson has kids - great exmple "Well kids 22 years ago I wrecked a young players career with a brutal cowardly act of thuggery. Now I hold a senior responsible position I don't think there is any reason for me to change. I lose my temper and attack people whenever I feel like it. So kids go out and be like your dad!"

Karma will get him.

I hope some of the tv stations show vision of the incident just to remind everyone of what a little "sniper" the Hawthorn coach really is.

a) Campbell Browns nonsense to the media after the game;
b) Clarkson's apology on SEN. If it should stay on the field, no need to ring a radio station to apologise...

He may be winning coach but as an individual is below par - I would not want my son playing for him: as what he stands for is flawed...

I heard an interview with Rhys-Jones, and he said that Walls did go beserk as it was just a social game for them. R-J said that Walls told them that he didn't want Clarkson leaving the ground under his own steam, and that was the only time he'd ever had a coach order a bashing

So glad The Age did this story.

It's about time the football world started questioning in some detail Clarkson's behaviour. IMO, the man is a disgrace to the game and an appalling role model. How he hasn't been brought up on 'bring the game into disrepute' charges before this incident I'll never know. But if he gets away with it again, I'll be completely staggered.

Does he have no mentors who can tell him to pull his head in? Are revered past coaches at Hawthorn not embarrassed by his constant abuse of anyone who crosses him? Does the AFL not care that the reigning Premiership coach has the most vile and abusive persona of any senior coach in the history of the game?

I wonder if Jeff Kennett will have a public opinion on Clarkson's behaviour? Or is his advice only reserved for what the 15 other clubs should do, rather than his own.

Personally, I reckon Clarkson needs therapy. But he won't get it as long as hawthorn thinks they're benefitting from his rather peculiar leadership style.

Of course, a big part of me just hopes Hawthorn implodes under the significant weight of Kennett's ego and Clarkson's irrationally-abusive personality.

There's no way those two are emotionally stable enough to sustain success and a harmonic working relationship over a long period.

Chad Cornes is a less shit bloke than Clarkson.
