Post subject: | Blues Build Depth |
I have noticed something of interest this year. Not sure if it is an accident, or if it was intended, but I believe we have given a lot of fringe players game time in the senios this year, and this has resulted in us creating a lot of depth, which is a good thing. Players like Browne, and Garlett, and Yarran, and Robinson, and Hadley, and Austin, and Bannister, and Cloke, etc etc etc etc etc, we have so many of these types who have been given enough exposure at senior level this year, and most have shown some reasonable form at one point or another, and the result in my personal opinion is DEPTH. I think this could be a huge blessing for us, this year and in future years. When injuries come, as they have now, we have players ready to step in. Cloke has come in for Hampson and done a reasonable job. Garlett comes in and does well. And we know a Browne could come in and probably go alright if a Joseph or Russell or Armfield type was injured. A Hadley goes down, but we have others who can come in. Maybe Grigg comes back now. Or even we might try a Ellard, who has done well in the VFL lately. And so on and so on. It means in many cases we can cover our injuries, obviously not for the stars though. Has this been intentional by the Blues? If so, it has been a shrewd move IMO. |

gotten gametime into jacobs, garlett, aj, Bentley, hartlett, anderson, grigg, armfield, fisher, hampson, cloke, browne, russell, o'hailpin, johnson, bannister, yarran, robinson. . . 18 guys who all would have been on the fringe at the start of the year, or wouldnt have played senior footy at all. .enough to make a team from! In the case of aj, russell, hoops, o'hailpin, armfeild, hampson etc they're now walk up starts in our best 22 IMO. . And guys like robinson, garlett and yarran look very promising. . Edwards, bentick, and ellard havent played this year but all have played at the top level. . .very few 'yet to debut' on our list Next year the likes of robbo, stanton, yarran, jacobs, 206 and o'keefe hopefully start to push for selection which with the returning waite and jamo, THEN we'll have some depth to brag about. |
