Quote:
WITH the aid of a pain-killing injection, Steve Hooker has shown extraordinary courage to win gold in Berlin.
And in an athletics World Championship night to remember for the green and gold, unheralded Queensland long jumper Mitchell Watt continued the medal rush by grabbing a surprise bronze medal.
***
Written off as a chance to even make it to the competition after injurying his thigh 12 days ago, Hooker showed why he is the greatest pole vaulter in the world by breaking through the pain barrier to win his first world title with just his second jump of the final.
***
The injury was originally diagnosed as a grade one adductor tear, requiring a 21-day recovery period.

I think I know who we should get to rev the boys up before their first finals match

(I know we have a thread about this in TalkingSport, so mods can close this if they wish. But thought it might get missed there on it's lonesome.)

I knew Steve a little a few years ago before he became famous and shortly before he moved to Perth to train. Steve is a top bloke. So I am stoked he won in spite of his injury.
