Post subject:  Round 21 - Pros and cons

Bit of a junk football game. 4 points, and not much else to take out of it, except for the unfortunate injury of Hadley.

PROS

1. Jordan “Diesel” Russel – where’s it come from? Penetrating kicks that I haven’t seen before

2. Fev has moved back in with his wife and is engaging in less insane behavioural patterns

3. Kade simpson is our most consistent player

4. Carrots had a great first quarter

5. Struggling here – I’d say Garlett but he really had no opponent for most of the game.

CONS

1. Backline had its worst game for weeks – Just when we thought we were masking the lack of Jammo and Waite, this happens. 2 guys kicked bags of 5 from the bottom team – embarrassing. Watch every team send their ruckman forward against us now.

2. Clearances!!!!!!!!! We are floundering in the bubble in last 2 weeks and the injury to Hadley will hurt.

3. Forward entries – Fev on 5 guys and still kick to him every time. He created some beautiful decoy channels to lead into today, taking 3 guys with him, but nobody is there.

4. Running Kreuzer into the ground – The poor kid (who is a freak!) just looks ruined at the end of every game. He’ll be walking with a 4 wheel frame by age 25 at this rate. He is such an asset and we should’ve protected him by playing another ruckman this week – bad selections IMO

5. Fumbling! – Why do we fumble in first quarters so often this year? It’s a weird pattern

Oh well, we roll on. 2 big games coming up.

Play like that against Adelaide and they’ll make mince meat out of us.

Pro

Kicking 24 goals! - great for the confidence

Con

Letting Melbourne kick 15 goals - bit slack at times

Post subject:  Re: Round 21 - Pros and cons

Pros
Having 11 goal kickers.
Garlett has the magic!
JR taking them on
Simmo
Gibbsy
Kreuz
Clokey had a real dip!
1AW survived some crunches on the shoulders and really ran hard through the middle.
Accuracy on goal

Cons
Poor defensive pressure
Joey has some way to go (has time though)
Hads' broken arm, he was doing great inside grunt work. Not sure who can take his place.

Take that win over the crap I watched live in "that" tanking game a few years ago.

Pros:

Russell - never thought I would see him come good, but he was excellent. Exactly what we've needed from him all along. If he keeps going like this, then look out AFL competition!
Walker - adds so much versatility. A very handy player to be running into form for us.
Gibbs - 'nuff said
Routine win - how many of those have we had since 2001? They are there to be savoured

And to those going we can't play like that against the Crows next week. Well of course we won't. Today was just going through the motions. It was almost a rest week before the finals given Melbourne couldn't win. As I say, take the routine win and move on. We'll be switched on against Adelaide next week, and hopefully we'll really turn up to play against the bummers the following week.

Post subject:  Re: Round 21 - Pros and cons

Pros:
Did what we had to.
24 gls in a soft game was good enough for me.
Another game in Walker and Garlett.
JR has stopped reading TC and as a result his confidence has now returned to normal levels.
Fev pushing well ahead for the Coleman will keep him firing.
Simmo
Gibbo
Murph
Carrots

Cons:
Hads injury

You cant pull too many negatives from that game. We'd all love to see them attack Melbourne with the same ferocity they did Geelong or StKilda, but when you're 21 rounds into the season with a finals place assured, it's fair enough for some blokes to be saving their legs.

Post subject:  Re: Round 21 - Pros and cons

Pros
- JR
- another game into Tex
- Garlett

Cons
- Hads injury
- Defence will need to stiffen up next week....pity Jamo is gone for the year.
- Too Fev-centric up forward again....if only we had Waite as well.
- Was it necessary to play Kreuzer against Melbourne? I would have thought it was a good opportunity to give the kid a rest.

Pros...

Midfielders all gelling together, in good form, and showing something going into first final series for 8 years
11 Goal kickers, and highest score ince 2001, even though it was against the bottom side.
Fev's kicking for goal. 7 goals from 7 shots = 100% efficiency.
Garletts game today was brilliant, was it a one off or do we use him in the finals?
Russell's game is improving all the time. Becoming an important player in the team with his run & carry.

Cons...

Hadley's injury, who do we select to replace him, IMO no-one. Bentick & Bentley are not quite up to the same class as Hads.
Ando played on Robbo who kicked 5 , and was too loose IMO, just has to tighten up. He just might not be good enough at senior level.
Wiggo, played well in patches, but do you feel confident with him playing in the finals?
Backline was a little small to handle Melbourne's talls today. Jamar kicked 5 on Thornton. We need tall defenders. Can Austin as an inclusion next week be the answer?
Rucks, not enough clearances, ...Concern with our rucks, anyone notice when Kreuze goes up for the centre tap, he doesn't look at the ball, but looks at the man. I would like to see Warnock or Sauce or Hamps come in and do the tapouts, we have lost the tapouts consistently this season. First use of the ball is very important and Warnock might be the answer. This could release Kreuze to the forwarde line as we despaarately need someone in the forward line to take a few marks inside 50. (Fish & Cloke and Hartlett not good enough)

Pro
That's 13 wins for the year!! This is turning out to be a "good year" after all.

It would have been nice to have buried the Dees by a 100 points or more, but there-in lies another Pro ...... unhappy with 10 goal wins!!

Con
Lazy 1st 20 minutes.
2nd ruckman
Had's broken arm

Post subject:  Re: Round 21 - Pros and cons

Pros

Garlett - NRS nom?
Russell
Gibbs - did some extraordinary things, has matured
Murph
Fev - 7 goals straight even though Frawley probably beat him
Joseph
Robbo played well :donk:
Houlihan was ok
Walks accurate raking kicks from half back
Simmo
Ando was beaten fair and square by Robbo - too good. BUT Ando started some nice passages by taking them on and used the ball ok.
Setanta's versatility

Cons

No forward pressure - that sort of low pressure game where you don't learn much
Clearances / Ruck / Hadley - we're in a bit of trouble here. Get Hammer or Warnock in. Why wouldn't they give Warnock a run @ 50% game time  We're not getting our hands on the ball, and though Hadley is just a GOP at best we'll miss him with Judd having to play inside from now on
Judd - terrible skills by his standards - shouldn't have played
Stevens has developed a nice sidestep, helps to mask his serious loss of pace
Bower has to spend all summer fixing his handball - it's flowering ridiculous
Kreuzer obviously needs to be 2nd ruck - lacks the leap or bulk to carry the ruck. The boy is tired and though good at ground level is not imposing himself in the air.

Post subject:  Re: Round 21 - Pros and cons

Missed the game, but from what I've gleaned:

Pros

JR.......take another bow. Has now officially exited the "bottom six" and "scapegoat" lists.
JG.......the livewire we've needed to help out Eddie. If Yaz can come on, geez we're looking dangerous.
Murph......37 possies in another All-Aust performance. All class
Regulation 50+ win  (even though Dees were Uber-tanking)

Con

Hads. With him, Waite and Jammo out, surely we can't do anything in the finals ?

Pros:
Garlett
Walker
Getting the win, when was the last time the Blues have won 3/5 by 50+ points?

Cons:
Hadley's arm, shame he'd been good for the side. Maybe try Walker in the circle?
