While its great for these guys to fork over $20k, I am a bit surprised the club has decided to allow them to get their name etched on a player locker. The 100 game requirement for the honour means that its a special privilege for a player to get his name on the locker. I'm sure the sponsor won't be listed with the players but I am uncomfortable with the club selling what should be a sacred space.

I absolutely hate it.

It disgusts me.

Don't bother putting in the hard yards to crack 100 games lads; you can just buy yourself recognition.

Well they do earn enough to be able to...

I wonder if Grouchy Smurph has an opinion of this?

Don't like the idea in general, but does depend on how it has been done.

That's disgusting.

You'd like to think at least one or two things would be free from $$$.

The bloody lockers now.

I'd actually feel ashamed to have my name on the locker without earning it via playing

Does anyone actually know how it will appear on the locker?

Until the specifics are known by the general public, it's hard to make much comment.

I see your point verbs, but jeez... it's the players' lockers.

Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned, but I like to think of that area as being players/football only.

If they want to recognise $$$$d up supporters there are plenty of other places to do so. They should leave the change rooms alone.

What's next? The logo?

My thoughts exactly, and considering a lot of the legends were there, they probably don't have a problem with it....

All this talk about people able to "write" their name on the lockers....

Would it be an idea for the club to have a separate locker for blue believers? I hope this is what they would do as opposed to letting people decide what number they will want their name to be under.

If it does end up the latter, that they are able to pick and choose where their name is to appear I would hope that we as supporters could raise this issue with one of the many media outlets - all the history involved with this club and players who have been lucky enough to get their name up on the locker, only to be on that list with someone who has a fat wallet.

Agree. Distasteful.

What next, the honour roll at the Australian War Memorial?

I thought they were selling off space on the old lockers - with the new facilities there will be new lockers. But I could be wrong - wouldn't be the first time.

I think it is fantastic that there seems to have been plenty of people happy to pony up $10K to support the club.

I don't think it's so great their names will be on the lockers, though. However, if it is done appropriately, as verbs is asking, it might not be too bad. But I agree with the principle that it probably shouldn't have ever been an option.

Anyway, if that's all we have to whinge about, onwards and upwards!

Does it matter where it is on the locker?

BTW Peter Bosustow and Mark Naley don't have their names on the lockers. They didn't earn the right. If they forked over $25k, they could have bought it.

I emailed the club about this to find out what the go is, will let you know if/what they come back to me with.

If the locker has something like "This locker proudly sponsored by buzzaaaah" at the top, I don't see what the problem is.

I highly doubt we'll see the name buzaaaah underneath Silvagni on the number 1 locker, and then Walker underneath that when he reaches 100 games next year.

I don't like it. There has to be some things that aren't sponsored. Things that we can uphold as important enough that we forgo an opportunity to turn a quick buck. In 50 years, you look at these lockers and it will be cringeworthy that Joe Citizen sponsored the n0 4 locker.

You find that more cringeworthy than sponsoring a brick? Because 15 or so years ago it was possible to by a brick at Princes Park and have your name on it. Think I'd prefer to see my name on a locker than on a brick. It shows a real commitment to the Carlton Football Club and would be a considerable thing to be proud of.

Are the names going to be on the locker forever? 20 years? 5 years? Does anyone actually know? As danny pointed out, will they be on the old or new lockers?

Do lockers have a manufacturer's name on them? Hopefully not considering the club would've paid them for the locker, not the other way 'round, unless that is the lockers are donated to the club.
