I have carrying a dirty secret for many months now. Something I was too embarrassed to bring up but now I am coming clean.

My wife and kids had been bugging me about going OS, in particular Disneyland. We planned to go in this years 3rd term holidays because our kids' school has a 3 week break. This time last year airfares were $2400 on Qantas. With a family of 6, it was looking like one expensive trip. Then V Australia entered the field and at Xmas time offered opening specials meaning the 6 of us could go for around $5500. They didnt block out school holidays either which was a bonus. I checked a few dates over the day and noticed that some of the dates were filling. So we bit the bullet and booked and paid for a return trip from 9 Sep till 1 Oct. This was in the week before Xmas. Felt pretty good about scoring a bargain.
2 hours later I went to bed and then it suddenly hit me.

" @#$%&!. Finals"

I had forgotten all about what September is usually for after 7 years of not caring. My wife was not at all interested in my stress.
Before the season I made my peace with the situation. its still a rebuilding year. We'll make finals but geelong and Hawthorn are so far ahead of us, it doesnt really matter. I'll get to see Week 1.
Then after round 2, i started to have doubts. Maybe we can go deep after all.
Then rounds 3 till 13, we wone 4 of 11 and my decision looked Ok. Even if we made finals, we'd be bundled out quickly.
Now we may be top 4, we will probably get a home final week 1 and our form is good. I still don't think i'll miss a flag but I Won't be making this mistake again.

I've made a similar mistake.. I was talked into going to this conference in Sydney for work. I didnt know that works booked people to leave Melbourne on the first Sunday in Sept. If we end up top 4, I'll miss seeing the Blue boys in a finals after going through 7 miserable years...

I can let you know details of where the NSW Supporters gather to watch matches, if you wish.

I'm in a similar situation. I am doing a semester of uni in Canada which starts on the 3rd of September. I miss round 22 and finals which are almost the first games in Melbourne I have missed in years. Dad made me a deal that if we make the Grand Final he will fly me back but he will be in the middle of the desert for most of the finals so we both suck at planning.

If the kids are a bit older (12+), do yourself a favour and pay the difference to make sure you can get in to the park next door as well.... and if you're in the area, a trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain would go a long way to easing the pain.

we are doing both parks but my kids are under 8 :banghead: :banghead:
Six Flags is on my radar. Online tickets are < $30 too. My only concern is the company has some debt problems so i may buy them closer to the day..

Hang on, this is Talking carlton.

Yeah i'll try to watch the game on a stream or at the least AFL.com replays

The only things that would keep me away from seeing a Final would be if I'm giving birth or if a close friend or family member is close to death/been in some kind of accident.

Weddings....birthdays.....holidays.....*&%%! em!

September is my month.....I love it and everyone knows they can't expect to make plans with me involved around this time of year.

I have my priorities
