He leads wide and produces party tricks often.
Anyone explain to me why he doesnt go up the middle or hazard a guess at how many he'd kick if the angle was better for every shot at goal?

He doesn't go up the middle because he leads wide.

1. We play along the wings. Kicking across the body to a leading target is just about the toughest kick in the game.
2. We work to get the ball in the hands of our better users of the footy. The opposition works to push back and clog up space.
3. If 1 and 2 happen regularly early in the game, the big unit loses the plot and plonks himself at the top of the square looking for the bomb.

The party tricks come when the pressure is off. Bucks (I think) called him out again on Friday night and all but labelled him a front runner. I hope he can answer in September.

It would probably help if our other forwards got better at creating space for Fev to run into. He leads wide so much because, often times, that's the only space available to him. Seems every other club can do this, but not us.

Actually I thought that on Friday night we did an amazing job giving Fev space in the forward 50 (or maybe Geelong didn't make an effort to fill it), it was just a shame he couldn't convert.

I think the key is our ball movement. If we move it quickly and dont give opposition teams time to fill the space, then Fev has a chance to go man on man and lead up the middle. But when we chip around, wait for the opposition to re-stricture their zone, and don't take the game on, then Fev is pushed wide.

Because in relative terms he's a lazy footballer and likes to take the easy option.
His opponents concede the boundary side to him and he takes it too often. If he worked harder (like a Riewoldt) and produced multiple leads, he'd have far more opportunity of shaking his opponent.

I know that will upset some people but I'm not trying to be negative. Thems the facts AFAIC.

I thought last night (with Scarlett out) we did a decent job of helping Fev compared to previous games.

However our forward positions and tactics are still a big work in progress.
People talk about Ratts learning on the job, but for someone with so much forward experience Skinny seems to be REALLY learning on the job.

Hopefully he can lift the standard and the efficiency quickly for us to be any kind of finals threat.
Teams like the Saints and Pies will shut us down and have Fev sooking with his hands on his hips very quickly.

He's just a genius Bucks..... has anyone heard a positive word from buckley towards fev ever??? I wonder if he'll pick and choose his targets so well when he is a coach. Buckley can get [REDACTED].

..he leads up the middle often enough, when we use the corridor, or we get a fast breaking clearance from the ball-up.. ..but when the guy with the ball is wide, the forward he kicks to, is gonna be wide.. ..it's not rocket science.. ..as for work-rate, he's a FF, if he did as many leads, or lead-up the ground as much as a revolt, jono or buddy, he'd mark the ball, look up to find nobody.. ..hard working CHF's can do it with the secure knowledge they've got another big FF to kick to.. ..those players have a big KPF to work in tandem with, Fev leads up, and has betts to kick to..

He just isnt kicking straight. Usually gets a lot of them from the pockets. Cats left that one pocket open at the punt road end because it was impossible to score from on friday. Nobody nailed one from it. Once his gets his kicking boot on a scores a few the opposion will be forced to guard wider which will give him more options down the centre.

If fev was kicking as good as last year we would have won a couple more games this year.

Go Blues !

Interesting. Let me get this right BV. Because you watch Fev every week, you can say, "he's lazy", "he takes the easy option" "doesn't work hard enough" and the piece de resistance, "it's fact"
Yet those who observe the product of Ratten's tuition on gameday every week have no idea about the club, the inner sanctum, the development etc etc
