Massive game for Murph tomorrow night. Crucial player when on song. Had a great season. Needs to really stand up against the best midfield in the comp and I have no doubt he will. His kicking is probably most suspect when a lot of pressure is applied on him- tomorrow night he will have pressure on his every disposal. He's probably a B+ midfielder at the moment.. tomorrow night hes got a real chance to stake his claim as a genuine A grader. |

Spoke to an opposition player recently (plays for one of those sides that belted us this year) and he said Murphy is a selfish player and a cheat. Quite interesting to hear this from him. I like Murhpy and hope he rips Geelong a new one. |

BV mentioned this during the week, maybe last week. Implication is that he runs ahead of the ball and doesn't chase very hard back the other way. Unfortunately, in this side, he's not on his own there. |

..yeah, stevo, juddles and murphos have in a way been given license to play more attacking roles when they came into their teams, the Gibblet is our best 'accountable' mid.. ..but it also depends on what their coaching instructions are.. ..we know Stevo got dropped cos he wasn't adhering to the instructions, where-ass Juddles and Murphos have often been in our best players with their attacking roles.. ..just look at the number of goals Murphos has kicked this year.. ..i reckon he's playing according to instructions [running ahead of play when a break is on, i doubt the at times jogging back defensively are his instructions].. |

..the 'cheat' stuff maybe cos he did have a wee bit of 'diving' creep into his game for a little bit, though admittedly you can't blame him since he's been getting buried for little ump protection ever since he started.. ..that's the only remotely 'cheat' stuff i could think of with him.. |

I used to play and until recently coach rep soccer - and "cheat" was in reference to to not chasing back and waiting for the defence to win the ball for you in midfield therefore getting a big head start on your marker or "cheating"... Seen a lot in the later of games/halves/quarters when players get tired. |

Only two sides that belted us are the Filth and Scum. You couldn't possible care what they think. |

To be honest it does piss me off when he plays for free kicks. Needs to get that out of his game asap IMO. |

IMO he has been addressing that issue and has been doing it much less this season. As for the opposition player...pfft. |

Seen a lot in the later of games/halves/quarters when players get tired. Spot on. The term 'cheat' has been used heaps in footy over the last decade. eg Richardson cheats off the pack hoping for a handball over the top for an easy goal. Comment was probably from someone a bit jealous of Marc's skills. I do notice he doesnt push back the other way as hard as i think he should at times but i dont know the roles. Perhaps he, like judd whom also cheats off packs (particularly in his WC days) is given licence to do so to try and get a bit of attack into our game. The coaches would be on to him about it if it was an issue. Hoping Murphy has a big game tomorrow night. |

I love the guy but I don't like that aspect of his game. Won't be long until the umpires catch on and he wont get the free kicks that he actually deserves. |

So much so that the umpires now dismiss legitimate frees against him. It's going to take time for the umps to forgive and forget Murphs swinging the head and arms back early on in the first half of this season. He has shaken it, but I reckon it will rear its little ugly head again. Murphy for the Brownlow 2010. |

The more appropriate description is he's a cherry picker. Whilst he certainly cherry picks, not all his goals are from running ahead of the play. Its also worth remembering that sometimes when a player is in space it just means he read the play much better than his opponent. As for the other stuff. As bondi said, they don't pay him anything these days, even when he almost loses his head. Hopefully he'll reflect on that over the off season, but it'll probably take him half his career to lose the stigma and get fair treatment from the umpires. Lets just hope he doesn't end up on a DVD like Whitnall, that's a life sentence. |
