What's the go with Russell?

He seems to start well most weeks, usually quite lively early. But then goes long, long periods hardly getting a touch.

Is this because Ratten uses him in defensive ways? If this is the case, then when is Ratten going to let him off the leash? JR looked fine as a central midfielder in a pre-season game. As did Grigg.

Or is it merely a matter of JR not being consistent enough yet? Is it his limitation? Does he just fade away during games? Is he currently incapable of putting together 4 qtrs?

Most weeks we see little flashes from JR, where he gets plenty of the ball in little bursts, and actually looks really good what with his pace and strength.

You didn't really answer the question.

Is he still inconsistent/developing? Or does Ratten use him defensively?

Not having a go, just wondering if you know the answer. Cause I don't

Started up forward and did really well, provided a great target and disposal was excellent

Then got moved to the back. Don't know why, probably team balance. Isn't a running backman but does his job, more a close checking "stop the opponent at all costs" backman.

Did try and crash through a few packs

JR definitely improving

Russell :screwy: :screwy: :screwy:

If i see one more positive post about JR im going to cry

In all me years of watching football i have never seen a player have so little influence on a game then him. You all get excited when he lays a tackle or blocks up the space, takes 1 good mark and kick 1 goal out of his arse but you all forget that this guy is a top 10 pick. A TOP 10 PICK who has been given more game time than any other fringe player on our list and has showed the least amount of improvement. You all get a hard on when he does something good as if he was consistently dong it when you all fail to see how incompetent he is. I want him to succeed as much as anyone, infact i was a fan when we got him but enough is enough. when he's on the ground we're a man short and we're not good enough to be playing with 17 on the field. We have tried him everywhere
a stopping forward - no success
midfielder - no success
half back - no success
tagger - no success
and yet he still gets a game, he barely comes off for a rest. We dropped 5 players this week and he still made the team. IF JR is still in our best 22 or even best 25 we will never win a flag. time to move on and give someone else a go. If we gave Browne, ADNO, armfield, yarran and robinson the game time that JR has been given then we would finally see some development.

This bloke is always improving ... each week I see something more from him. When he does something wrong he gets a lot of crap from supporters ... much more than any other player for some reason.

I for one am very happy with his development ... compared to the young players.

In 2 more years we will have a skillful mature team .. and JR will be one of them.

I noticed that AJ was soundly beaten AGAIN last night .... but no one says a word.

:?

I've seen plenty of posts where people have said AJ is tiring and can't go with his opponent. Like Kreuzer, he was much better earlier in the year. Once they've had 3-4 pre seasons then you should expect they will have the bodies to run out a season.

LMAO. We whinge at our lack of improvement, but continually berate one of the kids that is clearly improving.

Toss up some names that should've been picked before him.

he should be used like Stenglein was for WC when Judd was playing for them. Use him as a tagger but mainly to help Judd with blocks and tackles.

You really don't know what the hell you're talking about, do you?

Of some of the come-from-behind wins, JR has been absolutely instrumental in forcing that. He's been one of the few players when we win ugly, to be able to walk off the park satisfied he did what the coach, captain, and team required of him.

His disposal is very good.

Some people just wait to try and see the faintest negative and blow it up into some huge fault.

He has been a lot better since he got dropped. I think he almost took his position for granted before he was dropped :screwy: thats how he was playing anyway.

For JR, I have never been over-excited about him, or overly harsh either. He has all the tools... that pass to Fev last night (which Fev missed  ) was top class. His main issue is concentration IMO. If he can stay focused for the majority of a game, he can have a lot of influence. At the moment I still think his focus on the field wanes a lot more than it should.

Just a mediocre player at the moment.

Should be having more impact on games.

But he had that one great quarter against Port Adelaide.....yipee!!!!

Not good enough.....not now.......not in the forseeable future.

Get some more game time into Ando, Browne and Robinson.

Enough is enough :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
