Murphy's 4 on the weekend puts him at 23 from 18 games - a great effort from a midfielder. It's been some time since we've had a goal-kicking midfield. Here are a few past players for comparison:

Scott Camporeale - 233 games, 200 goals (C)
http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... Camporeale

Peak of 30 in 1999

Chris Judd - WCE
http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... %3A+C+Judd

Peak of 29 in 2003 and 2006.

Craig Bradley - 375 / 247 (C)
http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... +C+Bradley

Peak of 30 in 1986.

So which players were your favourite goalkicking midfielders?

Yeah, really happy to see Murphy step up. We need more goals from our midfield...........

Fevola is always gonna kick the majority of our goals, but if we can have a few other 25+ goals per year kickers like Murphy & Kreuzer we'd be much better off than compared to Fevola kicking 75 goals more than the next best on our list.

Here's hoping Gibbs and Judd can add to their tallys a bit too.

Johnno played a lot of his footy from 1982 onwards in the centre. He was pretty handy around goals

In fact, we got a lot of goals from our midfielders in the late '70s and early '80s. All of the 'mosquitos' loved a goal - Ashman, Buckley, Sheldon, Marcou etc.

Of the current players, I always love a Simmo goal on the run from 50...

Jezza was a goalkicking midfielder who they put at FF for a while.
I liked Wayne Harmes in the middle as well. Pity is they only put him there occasionally. When he split the pack and kicked them from 60 out, they stayed kicked.

Not sure about that.

Saw every game he played bar one ( ridiculously for my own wedding)

His early goals were all as a HFF and then FF.

Whilst he moved on the odd occassion into the middle the bulk of his games in the first half of his career were forward of centre.

The latter part of his career was on the HBB line where i believe he played his best and most consistant football.

In fact i thought he was the proto-type of todays quarter back players. He was an outstanding sweeper providing fantastic drive.

And now, he has actually doubled his goals output from last year with a few games to go. This is a phenomenal rate of improvement.

28 goals from 20 matches!

Can we get him to give some help to Juddy with his goalkicking?

the impressive thing about murphy's stat is that campo's 30 came in a grand final year ('99), as did judd's 26 ('06)

So for murph to have 2 home and away matches AND finals to come, he's on track for about 35 or so which would be considered a good return for the likes of eddie!
