according to the current rule interpretations: if you do a lance style prop with the ball in the air you will be pinged EVERY time (these are humphery-bear-smith's words) cos you are denying an opponent an attempt to mark. ![]() BUT ... if you grab the guy in front of you around the waist in the goal square and drag him to the ground all in the name of "shepherding" the ball through the goals .... then that's OK???!!! ![]() the afl focus on "interpretations" means you can jump into a guy's back and put your arm across his neck knowing he will be pinged for holding the ball cos he dragged the ball in! instead of screaming out "bbbaaalllll" we should be screaming out "interpretation!!!" this is bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

They are taking the physical contact out of the game...being rediculously over-officious (if that's a word). It's turning into a joke. The non-free kick to Livo was embarrassing. |

They want to find a free kick out of every contested situation; sure there might be one there, but can't they let the game go. Talk about overumpiring and wanting to be 'part' of the game |

Didn't you know the interpretation actually says "Carlton will be the only team ever penalised for sheparding" |

What about the Ricoto non mark that was paid and resulted in a goal. He even tried to play on because he knew he had grassed it. And the 50 metres paid against Waite in the first quarter! Another goal! Shit umpiring is ruining footy. |

Can't argue that one. Some really bad bad calls when it mattered though. Adelaide player can swing around and DROP the ball, play on...goal. |

Jarusa, where are you? Has Livo ever copped a free kick? How many have been paid against him? I'll go out on a limb and say that for every 1 free kick Livo gets, ten are paid against him... |

And the 50 metres paid against Waite in the first quarter! Another goal! Shit umpiring is ruining footy. Waite came in and tackled clearly after the mark....its harsh, but correct. |

Some of the umpiring has been a joke. Clearly home town decisions. Even Dermott and Dennis Cometti were completely dumbfounded by Livo's non-decision. Garry Lyon was fuming over that "dropping" the ball after a play on that resulted in a Crows goal. And they're hardly Carlton supporters... |

I'm with you maxy ... if you can sheperd an opponent from the ball then, clearly you can impede an opponent's run at the ball. Well, unless your Lance Whitnall. And yep, that FREE @#$%&! KICK not awarded to Livo on the FB line was total friggin pants. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Livo has been crucified as a Full Back for as long as I remember. Do you remember THAT game against Geelong in 2002 - Kingsley kicked 5 or 6 goals and at least 4 of them were free kicks paid against Livingstone for what only could be described as Silvagniesque spoils. The umpires love to make heros of themselves against the unknown players - the umpires suddenly put the whistle to their lips against the unknown players. But get them to pay a holding the ball decision against James Hird or Robert Harvey and you have to swing the pricks about 1080 degrees. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The umpire in the Livo non-decision was Stefan Grun. I went to uni with Stefan - he always hated Carlton with a passion. He proved it time and again yesterday... |

I agree that those decisions all cost us, but to be fair I thought Adelaide copped their fair share of bad/non decisions as well. The umpires are just shit. The only way they would be consistant is if they tossed a coin at every stop play situation. |
