Who is more important to the team out of Bower or Jamison? I think Bower is a heaps better player.

Jamo for mine.

Two very different players who I would say are both crucial to the team. I'd class Jamison as our best defender and think he can be relied on to take the oppositions best forward most weeks (aside from maybe a Jonathan Brown type etc). Has the versatility to play on big and small forwards (has towelled both Bradshaw and Medhurst) and has that amazing ability to spoil from anywhere. Cool under pressure and has pretty decent disposal by foot and makes good decisions.

Bower, on the other hand, I think is crucial to our set-up because he is one of the few players in the back half who is prepared to tuck the ball under the arm and run. Whilst I know personally this often leaves me with my heart in my mouth, its the sort of run, carry and dash that we occasionally are so desperately lacking during games. However, to only describe Bowser as this, is selling him short. Had question marks on him early in his career about his ability to actually defend an opposition forward and would get caught out ball-watching or give his opponent too much latitude. This is definitely not the case anymore and has successfully shut down numerous opposition forwards this year.

So no answer to your question really - they are both hugely important to our structure, but for different reasons. I feel much more comfortable when they are both out there.

Jamo by a long way.

Different types of defenders. One is a FB and the other is a tall athletic attacking defender.

It has been said by other players how important Jamo is to our structure at FB. Given that he is our bonafide FB (and will get stronger and better) then Jamo is probably more important to the team.

Personally, whilst I dig them both, I am and have been all along a big Bower fan.

They're different players. But i am a Bower Fan.

It's as if he's mind just says 'Take the Ball and Run'................. something i don't think we do enough off.

Far to often (and mainly in our defesive50) players just stop and piss-fart around with the ball. Bower just takes off. I like that, it's entertaining football.

I think Jamo is more media hype than anything else. When Judd first game to the club he spoke about Jamo and Hammer, the no names who impressed him the most on arrival. Ever since then the media have run with that and Jamo was a 'star' before proving his worth. Add to that comments by Ratts every now and then at how important Jamo is to our structure. You ask any journalist who doesnt really understand Carlton and they say Jamo for sure. But to those who go to the footy week in week out, watch the replay when they get home, read all things Carlton - i dont need a journo to tell me who is better. I see him get beaten far to often for my liking. Dont get me wrong he is a 'good' defender but i think Bower is a great defender. He looks like a deer in headlights but thats his style. First he shakes, then he bakes. Pity the media havent caught on. Bower will be an all-australian in 2 years. Save this post.

Good question!

I'd say Jamo's more important because of his closing speed and ability to play the full back role.

We've got Bower Aussie Waitey Tbird to play the tall mobile defender role.

Jamo is playing with injuries that would sideline any other player.
AFAIC, they're trying to nurse him through the season because Ratten realises his value. Bower is a real favourite of mine but Jamo is one of our half dozen "crucial" players.

Agree completely. The Jamo we're getting now is good. The Jamo we had at the start of the season before he did his shoulder again, he was terrific. I hope Jamo can get clear of his shoulder injuries in years to come, or we may have to start looking again for a 10 year full back.

Bower's development has been fantastic this year.

Bower is slightly more important - he can go with someone like Buddy and run off and create. Jamo is off his best this year, but at his best also a key player

Jamo by a mile.

Bower can run and carry, um and can run and carry.

Still to learn how to spoil
Still to learn when to go for a mark or spoil
Still to learn how to handball
Still to learn how to kick

apart from the above he is an absolute gun.

First two of those are dead set wrong, and the rest is just being picky. He has genuinely improved since the pre-season.

..definately Jamo, because he gives us so much structure down back.. ..he's more the player we can build that defense around..

I'm a big Paul Bower fan. However, I believe both are irreplaceable. Two different types of defenders, both of which you need to win a premiership.

I think that's the point as to why Jamo is more important: rare commodity.
