I can't remember a single time this season where the player kicking out has kicked it to themselves... run 15 metres... and kicked it long out to the wing.

I see opposition clubs do this every week :banghead:

Why did we recruit a guy for his kicking (Johnson) only to have him chip the ball 20 metres sideways to the pocket to the exact guy he replaced (Thornton)? :donk:

It doesnt make sense.

Did you notice how many times Heath Shaw kicked the ball to himself & had it on the wing or HF flank before the goal umpire had finished waving his flag :hitcomputer:

Maybe the guy putting it on the ground should hold it up in the air first, as a signal to Johnson or whoever that he is about to put it on the ground? It might flow better then.

Last Friday it was probably cheaper getting it to the centre of the ground that way - but the problem was we were getting smashed in the centre clearances in the first half.

Ok this has been my gripe for months now so i'm finally posting it. After a behind our only option seems to be a 15m kick horozontally to the left or right. Then this player takes his time and finally kicks in hope to a contest. Surely we can come up with other options like most other teams ? I watch opposition teams and they clear the ball far easier and quicker than we do !

Collingwood had a "ready or not here we come" attitude towards their kick outs ... in football if the player with the ball moves they create movement up the field. Heath Shaw was kicking to a player that was on the move as well ... if that players spots his target then the next kick will be to a target inside 50. Our put it on the ground and wait for Johnson or Stevens is clearly not working. If we are going to chip sidways 15-20 metres then we need a third man close who can shepherd the player kicking in to enable a one-two with the initial receiver. Our lack of imagination with our kick in set up is worrying because you would have to wonder if our other set ups are suffering for the same reason.

I reckon this alone is a major minus for Ratten this year...surely at least this most obvious weakness could have been addressed this year. And it doesnt get addessed just by recruiting a guy who can kick...it gets addressed by putting into place 1, 2, 3 and more different setups when kicking out....I can honestly say we do not have one kick out strategy that is plain to see.

It might flow better then. ..still far too slow, the faster you can kick out the less time you give the opposition to set up.. ..the more chance you can break into space and use quick ball movement..

i always tell my mates at the footy.. when i go.. (yeah i have one)... that the best thing to happen to us is they kick no points just goals... that way the ball starts in the centre again.... ...cos if its a point.. we get it.. we turn it over.. they kick a goal and thats 7 points out of it not 6... i love giving that analogy cos thsts how it feels.......

And the fact that they did not have their recognised ruck and we still got killed .... just flowering weak. The boys just did not want the footy ... at centre clearences or kick outs for that matter. What steamed me is that when the ump called play on our boys would just stand where they were instead of running up to the player with the ball and put pressure on him. Must have seen it at least 10 times ... is there a reason for this? The Collingwood players would always run full tilt at us when the ump said play on and then invariably get a turn over from the shite kick that followed under pressure! Just do not get it ... is there a strategy behind it? Would love to know.
